San Felipe SCORE races gone forever?

Baja Racing News.com EXCLUSIVE!
Gary Newsome

UPDATED
December 10, 2007

From the Press Release, "SCORE-Fish announced that after a last days switch last year because of political reasons beyond SCORE’s control, the popular SCORE ‘Spring Break’ race will return after a one-year absence to San Felipe, Baja California, Mexico. The 22nd Tecate SCORE San Felipe 250 will be held March 14-15 in the quaint Sea of Cortez fishing village."

Baja Racing News.com response: "political reasons byond SCORE's control". Just read on in this article and judge for yourself.

December 8 Update:

Reports out of the awards banquet in Primm say that SCORE is going to San Felipe in 2008. Obviously, with all the crime issues in Baja Norte, SCORE is desperate to go back to San Felipe.

OK Sal, time to pay up for all those broken promises in San Felipe!

The one hotel that refuses to repay the racers for deposits?

The Marina Hotel. Not the entire town like Sal was quoted as bashing. SCORE B-S Proven! As a matter of fact, racers who have not received their deposits back, have not pressed their US agent for their money back! Oh well, its Baja, Right!?

Baja Racing News.com will report!

San Felipe Hosed by SCORE
EDITORIAL

By: Gary Newsome

Sal Fish of SCORE claimed today, "alot of racers have not received a refund from the cancelled San Felipe race in March. San Felipe has alot of problems".With that statement, SCORE is signalling its position against ANY SCORE racing in the San Felipe area. Firmly placing blame of the San Felipe community, SCORE is attempting to blackball an entire Mexican community. To say that hotels and motels not refunding deposits is the reason San Felipe is BAD, to not race there, is BS. Thats right, I'm calling this BS.Even if totally true, such a non-issue stopping SCORE?! And, Sal Fish, Mr. Offroad racing in Mexico saying this is stopping the races in Flippy....BS. Wierd thing too, he didn't even mention the EJIDO! Wow!Rumors of a three-year racing deal for the Baja 250 in Ensenada, tend to confirm the thinking that SCORE is setting up the storyline to avoid ANY deals with San Felipe in the near future. He also mentioned the upcoming elections in Baja California.Too bad. San Felipe doesn't deserve this railroading. The desert racing teams & fans don't deserve forced use of Ensenada year-round.

Original Story:

Some are saying the SCORE San Felipe races are gone forever. The story from San Felipe today is that the Baja 1000 for 2007, running from Tijuana to Cabo San Lucas will not include any of San Felipe. This report is indicative that SCORE will never run in San Felipe again. The hurt feelings of the San Felipe officials and SCORE will not be repaired easily. If you include a the ongoing land dispute and the reluctance of SCORE to pay any type of 'land user fees', preclude any breakthrough in the near future.

LETTER ISSUED BY THE PRESIDENT OF THE EJIDO ON 26 FEBRUARY 2007

NATIONAL AGRICULTURAL PLAN OF MEXICO

PROVISION FOR COMMON LAND *(t.n.)

SAN FELIPE BC

With regard to the position adopted by the Ejido Assembly **(t.n.) on February 25, 2007, whereby said organization refused passage through common land to participants of the San Felipe 250 Race, the Ejido Commissioner states the following:

First.- As in all previous years, the authorities, organizers and other parties interested in conducting the San Felipe race again left negotiations with Ejido representatives to the last place in their agenda.

Second.- Following the 2006 race, the company “Score” along with authorities and other organizers agreed to meet two weeks after that event in order to negotiate terms for the race’s 2007 edition. No such meeting took place.

Third.- In a meeting held at the municipal offices in January this year, Sal Fish and his legal representative, Lic. Oscar Ramos; the Municipal Deputy for San Felipe, Joaquín Sahagun Delgado; the Deputy Coordinator Ing. Benjamín Castillo; Lic. Rubén de la Peña, Managing Director of “Cotuco” in San Felipe; Jesús Olmos, Manager of “Épocas de Oro Ranch”; Lic. Roberto Ledon Perezchica, Canaco Delegate for San Felipe; the Tourist Sector’s Rafael Navarro; Dr. Javier Ayala, President of the Matomi Ejido Commission; Isaac Rodríguez, Commissioner of the Delicias Ejido; the Ejido Plan Nacional Agrario’s President, Treasurer and Secretary, respectively Ing. Samuel González Lares, Aurelio Torres Flores and Arturo González Martínez, were joined by representatives of the ejido in question. The Commissioner for the Ejido Plan Nacional Agrario resolved for those who participate in the organization of the event to draw up a written agreement, whereby one of the organizing parties is designated to assume full responsibility, since not one of the groups represented at the meeting could admit to holding said commitment at the time.

Fourth.-The original agreement had been that the Ejido would receive the total sum of the "land fee" (++) which brokers pay in order to obtain authorization to hold events such as this race, an agreement which Mr. Sal Fish made public. The San Felipe 250 race traditionally has over 350 competitors, where the money to be collected in land fees exceeds $21,000 US. Approximately $10,000 US were paid to the Ejido in last year’s event, an amount that is insufficient to cover road damage caused by the race. In terms of the land fee that is payable to Ejido tenants under Mexican law for an activity of this kind, the complete sum has never been received by them, despite the fact that on this specific occasion a direct commitment was made by Mr. Sal Fish, who, with funds from the Municipal Deputy and Canaco, was only able to provide the Ejdo Assembly with $8,000 US. To date, the reasons that led Mr. Sal Fish to breach the agreement are unbeknown to this office as they are to the respective Ejido tenants.

Fifth.- In view of the above, the ensuing reaction by Ejido tenants should be seen as a result of the illogical and inappropriate offer made by the Municipal Deputy of San Felipe in conjunction with Canaco representatives. No blame can therefore be placed on Ejido members for faults committed by the event’s organizers, the latter’s equivocal proposal, the unrest their attitude provoked among the Ejido community and the disappointment these organizers evidently brought to local business.

San Felipe, Baja California, February 26, 2007

SINCERELY

ING.SAMUEL GONZÁLEZ LARES

President of the Ejido Commission

Ejido Plan Nacional Agrario

(National Agricultural Plan of Mexico)

* Translator’s note: “Ejido” is the name given to ‘common land’ in Spanish, hence translation of title - “Ejido Plan Nacional Agrario”; ** Common Land Tenants’ Assembly.

++ Editor's note: Each entrant in the Baja 250 race is required to pay a "land fee" of $75 US to be used to repair damage caused as a result of the running of this race across public and private lands.

Even though SCORE has collected such fees for years, payments from SCORE to local officials in Baja Mexico have been called into question by the local Ensenada papers, reporting on the situation. Stay tuned...

Off Road Desert Baja Racing Risks

HERE IS A VID ABOUT BAJA RACING

HERE IS A VID FROM THE CABO RACE IN 2004

Racing in Baja Mexico, off road events are naturally dangerous. Driving at speed over ranch roads, that are not closed to the public during the races, is just the first risk. Combine the locals drinking and chase crews driving fast and wrecklessly on the access and paved highways, is another factor.

We haven't even addressed the race course itself. Unengineered roads with livestock of every kind wandering in front of the racers. And don't forget the Baja black cows, you can't see them at night, even with some of the best lighting systems in racing.

Variable road surfaces, just like in rally racing and last but not least, the traps. The locals often set up ramps and jumps to see the racers get airborne. Too bad the drivers don;t know about the constructs, because these often lead to heavy crashes. The bad traps are the ones set up by locals to disable the competitors, whcih lead to race cars destruction and injuries and death.

Baja Racing News LIVE EXCLUSIVE

Baja racing news hounds spotted the group in Todos Santos today, running the CABO 500 - Baja 1000 southern Baja course.

In Todos Santos, reportedly, T-Bird Lounge Racings Danny Anderson (the current KING OF CABO) and Butch Jensen who won the 2006 CABO 500, were also in the group.

The team was spotted today and reports from the race course ranchers say they are excited about two major races in their backyards this year. The CABO 500 in September and the Baja 1000 in November. Off Road Desert Baja Racing in Mexico

The Most Notorious and Dangerous Racing In The World! The Baja 250 and more updating stories.

The Baja 250 2007 has turned out to be what Baja Racing is all about. Official intrigue, crazy Federales pulling out automatic weapons and hot desert racing trucks and drivers. SCORE is in bad shape after shoving the fans at Laughlin, shoving the other Trophy Truck drivers in the final standings of the 250 and blowing the San Felipe venue for 2007.

For the amount of money it costs the average racer to race in a SCORE race in Mexico, more needs to be done to justify the expense. Like security. If racers are forced to race in Baja NORTE, in Ensenada, more needs to be done to ensure more security for the racers. The fans also need some security assistance, but, if the local authorities don't take this seriously, they will lose the $$$ from the events. Just like they have lost the average American tourist $ that used to come to Baja. No more. No mas. Average Joe American doesn't go to Mexico anymore, they were warned years ago, now, no mas.

The Mexico races should never be taken for granted and the race fans of Mexico and the United States deserve better performances from both SCORE and the police with guns. Mark should have never been treated like he was and all of desert racing should salute the Terribles family who kept it together this weekend. If I were a Herbst, I would be asking myself if it's worth it, racing in Baja NORTE.

Also a salute to Alan, Mr. Hawaii, who could have really made a mess of things. Read on into our stories, Travis Coyne started a new business this weekend. Special awards to Jesse Jones, winning the Baja 250 'Fishing Tournament' and Mark Post for winning the 'Mr. Bad-Ass' awards from us at Baja Racing News LIVE!

We will stay on top of these developing stories,

Baja 250 LIVE Carnage

UPDATE! Sunday, March 18, 2007.

El Vigia Newspaper in Ensenada, Baja California casts doubt on SCORE International!

Baja Races now at risk! The 40th for SCORE will be one of survival in Mexico.

El Vigia is reporting Sal Fish is not considering the Baja 250 for San Felipe in 2008 and is "thinking" about the viability of all SCORE Mexico races.

The other stories reporting in the Ensenada Newspaper today:

SPORTS
""Small gift? A sea of suspicions towards Score International was the turn out to at the awards ceremony on Sunday with the winners overall and of the Trophy-Trucks to Mark Post and Rob MacCachren after the arresting of Mark Post by first on the part of the Preventive Federal Police in the final part of the route of the Baja 250. The prize was stolen on Saturday in Santo Tomás from Alan Pflueger.""

After almost two days to beperson under arrest in the Salcedo Wrecking Yard, yesterday the Ford left F-150 of the team Riviera Racing, thanks al payment carried out by Jim Blackmore in the offices of the PFP, added to that do not there was denounces some against Mark Post.

The incident where Post was seen wrapped, happened Saturday afternoon in the delegation of Holy Tomás al to try to arrive to the finisjh line of the career out of Baja 250, being undertaken by elements of the Preventive Federal Police after surpassing in contrary sense and to surpass the speed limit in the highway to the height of the populated of San Vicente.

That seen action in every moment by various officials of the PFP, who rotated the order against the Californian, same that I am carry out al moment to try to arrive at the goal, where I am requested him that will descend of the unit and subsequently was carried arrested to the offices of the delegation, before the inconvenience of many fans that witnessed the fact.

This gave as a result that the team Riviera Racing to lose a valuable time of 4 minutes and 33 seconds, with what al to reduce this figure to it registered in the chronometer gave him the victory above Alan Pflueger, who was declared as the victorious one overall in the finish line located in the interior of the baseball fields.

This change in the results that sent of a blow to Post and Rob MacCachren of the sixth position al first I generate a sea of you suspect of different runners and fans through the Internet in different forums where was spoken of a problem of corruption on the part of Score International and also of the Mexican authorities.

The failure on the part of the team that directs you Sal Fish was achieved Sunday thanks to the videos presented by Jimmy Reads, cameraman of the American assembly before the officials of Score International, where they assure that is seen like do not there was problem of violation of the regulation of career on the part of them.

Yesterday to the editing of El Vigia Newspaper some photographs arrived where is observed the maneuver that Mark Post I carry out in the highway to surpass a patrol of the PFP and that I cause the problem, that then finalize in a misunderstanding.

We do not have any problem with the PFP: Blackmore, said.
The leader of the team Riviera Racing, Jim Blackmore I assure that never they received a badly I try on the part of the Preventive Federal Police, al the same as Mark Post, who flew in its private airplane Sunday to the United States.

Blackmore commented that the Mexican officials carried itself very well in every moment, since the detention in a moment that suffered Post by hand of them was qualified by the American as "part of its work" and something did not that be a matter of a revenge.

"We want to continue coming to run to Baja and to Mexico, I believe that is important to stand out the work carried out by the Federal where we did not have any problem and we receive aid of them to remedy the situation that Mark (Post) created al to cause a lack to the laws of I travel, but already I remain fixed all and we will return without any doubt in June for the Baja 500" said, Jim.

In opinion of Blackmore, who I remain to receive from the yard the Trophy-Truck number 3, the triumph that was given them in this 250 was in part thanks to the attention that put Jimmy Reads to record all it happened during the detention of Post in Holy Tomás, added to that did their protest in time and form before Score International.

After this triumph in the Baja 250, Blackmore trusts in which itself Iran al first place of the championship, with what would add al leadership in the Trophy-Trucks that at this time have in the series of Best In The Desert, the Terrible Town 250 to be carried out to ends of the month of April in Pahrump, Nevada.""

The Baja 250 BIG STORY!

SCORE corrects Mark Post finishing position to First in Trophy Trucks in the Baja 250!

After a chase with the Federales and arrest and impound of Mark and the famedBlack #3 Riviera Racing Trophy Truck.

SCORE OFFICIAL STATEMENT: "TROPHY TRUCK RESULTS NOTE: UNOFFICIAL Trophy Truck results posted at the San Nicolas Hotel in Ensenada listed Mark Post #3 as 6th Place. SCORE has reviewed the facts surrounding a police detainment of the Post race vehicle. This detainment occurred just prior to and within full view of the timed finish line in Santo Tomas. The detainment was witnessed by a senior SCORE official. The detainment was not race related. Mark Post did not violate any SCORE mandated highway rules on any of the six highway sections. The official results have been recalculated to account for the 4 minutes and 33 second detainment and this moves Mark Post to his correct finishing position of 1st Place in class."

Baja Racing News LATEST REPORT!

""Mark Post blew a corner coming on the asphalt and rocked a few cops. So the cops then took off after him. They caught him on the highway and tried to pull him over. One got in front and the other in the back to get him to stop him. So Post gassed it, passed the Federales on the left towards oncomming traffic, hit the dirt and was gone. Near the finish area, the cops set up a road block and started stopping the leaders. The first to see the Mexican guns was Tim Herbst, detaining the Herbst Trophy Truck, then Riviera Racings Post. Post was dragged out and headed off in cuffs with the Federales. Reports are, Post was never put in a jail, he was detained in the Federales offices. The #3 Riviera Trophy Truck was impounded after the race by the Federales, confirmed in the El Vigia Newspaper accounts. Despite rumors from SCORE lackies in the states. Now here is where the rules come in. Post's co driver got in the car took off and finish line. Post was awarded the win the next day, just prior to the awards ceremony.""

The Baja Racing News EXCLUSIVE story is Mark Post passed a Federale on the Highway and/or roosted the Federale and they didn't take kindly to it, and chased the Post boy to the finish line.

We saw near Check 4, where they drop off the highway just before San Vicente, Post was being chased by three police cars. One police car passed his race car, blocked the highway, where the race course splits off before the turn, and Post almost t-boned the police car. Mark skidded to avoid him and went around the back of the police car. Then he almost hit another police car that was also blocking the highway. Post hopped off the highway, between the two police cars, back onto the course to the turn to head towards the coast, past Check Point 4. This happened about two hundred feet from our pit.

To us it seemed as though Post was speeding. We have heard rumors of why the cops were chasing Post, but since they are rumors, I’ll stick with speeding, not stopping for a cop and almost hitting a cop car for reasons why Post should be DQ’d? Then at the finishline he was held at gunpoint and wasn't able to make it fully over the finishline.

He then got arrested and they moved him all the way to San Quintin. Mark said that they also held the Herbst Trophy Truck in front of him in an effort to get to him and that Herbst lost some time before being able to finish the race. His onboard video and the tracking device showed no speeding violation. Where SCORE hands him a gift win to keep him in the SCORE "club".

Riviera Racing IS in both the SCORE and Best In The Desert series this year, would an event like this have the team pull out from the Mexico series? NOTORIOUS. Follow the $ right? Story also is Ed Herbst bailed Post out of detainment. The boys with Terribles TT should have won the race, but, not for the Federales pulling them over near the Finish Line and taking fifteen minutes off their time, they would have. The Federales mistook them for the #3 Riviera being chased.

Lesson learned, keep drivin' boys, no matter what! They don't call desert offroad Baja racing "the most notorious and dangerous" for nothin'. EXCLUSIVE Baja Racing News LIVE!
