The San Felipe 250 will be where the tire will be put to the test and pushed to the limits. Arciero/Miller Racing holds numerous wins in SCORE Baja 500 and Baja 1000. DAMEN JEFFRIES CRASH- HURT BADLY!
Damen Jeffries is in the Hospital tonight, after being thrown from a customers vehicle at high speed. He is in bad shape and will not Race.
Damen was not testing suspension as in Barstow.He was running the car up the road less than 1/4 mile from his shop checking the engine and fluids.I don't know exactly what happened but he's at the hospital awaiting x-rays for injuries to collar bone/neck or shoulder-This from Casey (brother) and his wife.race. He reportedly had no harness, belts or even a helmet, the crash was "bad" a witness said, "he wadded it up good".

A reliable source indicates that the Federal Police have a radar trap set up about 10 miles north of El Dorado Ranch on Highway 5 (subject to re-location without notice of course) and that they are ticketing both north and south-bound traffic exceeding 45 mph. The fine is $50. U.S. and with a U.S. drivers license.
The latest SCORE puke
The latest tally of 328 entries from the United States , Canada , Columbia , England and Mexico are scheduled to face the infamous sand whoops and rocky canyons of the down right brutal, San Felipe 250. The record number of participants for 2006 is partly due to Movie, TV and Internet coverage but this writer thinks it's much more primal than that. It seems to me that some folks have grown tired of the ordinary “run around in a circle racing” that constantly shows up every time you flip the boob tube on. Baja racing is real with peril at every turn. Made for TV racing on the other hand might be dangerous, medical help is only moments away. In Baja, if you have an incident that's life threatening, SCORE will dispatch a helicopter to your rescue. If you are fortunate enough not to need Medical help the “Weatherman” will advise your crew as the best he can to your whereabouts for the ground extraction of man and machine. Once your crew has this information, at the very least it will be hours if not a day before anyone familiar appears to remove you from the clinches of Baja
Dare I say only the toughest racers venture south of the border to face the Baja Peninsula? I just did!
Baja savvy racers, chasers and spectators know the above to be true but I have a sneaking suspicion that a whole new readership to the sport of Baja racing is peering in trying to grasp what veterans consider normal and just plain fun.

Friends of ORC, DP Racing sent us an email about the 2006 San Felipe 250 course:
Because this year's San Felipe 250 course is identical to last year's, and parts of the course were used in the recent Baja 1000 and CODE-Record 275 race, the race course hasn't had much time to "heal" from back-to-back races. After prerunning the week of Feb 25-26, there was considerable use evident on the weekend of March 4-5, and considerably more people. The start at the Arches to Borrego (RM 46) is terribly whooped out, with a plethora of new lines appearing on both sides of the marked course. Tighten those kidney belts and hold on to those Oh Sheet bars, because nothing has changed.
The course continues west and northwest to the U-turn and Check 1 (RM 61) near San Matias, and the pole line road leading there has a different size bath-tub whoop. Approaching the Diablo dry lake, make sure and stay on the course and the graded road - the race course does NOT enter the dry lake bed. Heading south on the "graded" road, its over-use is horribly evident from previous races: g-outs, rocks, silt beds, berms, etc. The silt bed just past RM 78 is as bad as ever (and will get worse the last week of prerunning) and that new "line" found last week will be trashed on race day. More whoops to Diablo Rd , cruise up to Morelia Jct before turning south. Whew. WFO on Morelia Rd for a brief respite before turning into Huatamote Wash. Same-oh, same-oh. Whoops, whoops, rocks, and....whoops. Pop out on Old Puerte Rd and sizzle south on the WEST track before the turn and Checkpoint 2 into Chanate Wash (RM 130).
The whoops in Chanate Wash have gotten deeper. You can watch guys on bikes completely disappear between them, and there is no set pattern of regularity. And more rocks this past weekend. SCORE has put an announced Checkpoint 3 at RM 161, then sends you south on a road before you drop into Matomi Wash. Matomi hasn't changed since the Baja 1000, just get through the beginning to open it up as it dumps into the Sea of Cortez . At RM 196, turn left onto the "paved" Puertecitos Road for 4+ miles. The good news is that SCORE does not consider this a "pavement" section and there is no speed restriction here. Head for the barn! Dive into the grapefruit boulders at RM 200 and battle your way through the Pumpkin Patch, before hitting more sand and dirt. The final Checkpoint 4 is at RM 228. Cruise into the finish and a cold Tecate by one of Mexico 's beautiful women.

2006 TECATE SCORE SAN FELIPE 250 - RACE BRIEFING March 07, 2006 - 14:00:04 1) The Driver/Rider Meeting will be held on Friday at 7:00PM poolside at the El Cortez Hotel. This will be a short meeting to pass on any last minute updates and/or answer any questions you may have. This meeting will start promptly at 7:00pm . Each entry must send one representative to the meeting. 2) All competitors are reminded that off road racing is an inherently dangerous activity that can result in serious injury or even death. YOU MUST BEAR THE ULTIMATE RESPONSIBILITY FOR YOUR PERSONAL SAFETY. 3) It is important to remember that SCORE cannot regulate the conduct of spectators. Be advised that spectators may engage in malicious activity by building ramps, digging ditches and placing objects onto the course. When approaching a group of spectators - SLOW DOWN & BE ALERT!! 4) The roads used for this race course are open to the public. You must expect at all times to encounter oncoming traffic. 5) All competitors MUST possess a valid driver license while operating the race vehicle. 6) The race course is marked with orange/white ribbon, pink arrows, green wrong ways, and mile markers every two miles. SCORE cannot guarantee that course markings will remain in place until race day. It is your responsibility to race in a controlled manner and be able to slow down and avoid danger spots. 7) All competitors must do their part to protect and preserve the Baja ecological environment. Please instruct your team that it is very important to properly dispose of all solid and liquid waste. Do not litter, start fires, or deviate from the marked course. 8) Four-Wheel vehicles that are in a position to pass a motorcycle or atv MUST NOT ATTEMPT TO PASS UNTIL THE RIDER HAS MOVED TO THE SIDE OF THE COURSE. Motorcycles and ATVs must remain aware of approaching traffic and move over as quickly as possible. Four-Wheel vehicles are ultimately responsible for the safety of passing. USE YOUR HORN!!! 9) SCORE will use 151.625 (Weatherman Relay) for the main race operations radio frequency. Please use this frequency to report an emergency or ask for help. 10) Stub Cans will NOT be used at this race. You are required to enter all four checkpoints in a single file manner and come to a COMPLETE STOP at the Stop Sign. The checkpoint corridor is not considered part of the race course. Entering and exiting all checkpoints must be done in a safe and prudent manner in order to guarantee the safety of all checkpoint workers. Checkpoint signage will be placed on the right side of the course. NO passing 300 feet before a checkpoint. NO pitting 1/4 mile before a checkpoint. No towing, pushing or pulling through a checkpoint or more than 2.4 miles on the race course. 11) All race vehicles must register with Rally Track and obtain a Rally logger device. This gps based technology will be used to identify where a racer has deviated from the marked course. A vehicle that does not have a rally logger will be disqualified. 12) The 4.6 mile Puertecitos Road paved section starting at race mile 195.8 and ending at 200.5 does NOT have a speed limit. 13) At race mile 126.8, the course makes a right turn onto a road that closely parallels the Puertecitos graded powerline road for 3.2 miles. The graded powerline road will be used for pit/chase traffic only. Race vehicles must follow the marked course on the rough parallel road, which is located on the right side/west side of the graded powerline road. 14) STAGING - Access to the staging area will be on dirt roads through the neighborhood just southeast of the Start Area. Please drive slowly and as quietly as possible on these roads. Look for and follow the SCORE signs. Follow the staging personnel's instructions and line up accordingly. Do not wander away from your race vehicle once you are in the staging line. 15) FOUR WHEEL CLASS STAGING TIMES - TT(8:30AM), 1(8:45AM), 10(9:00AM), 8(9:15AM), PT(9:20AM), SL(9:25AM), 1/2-1600(9:30AM), 5(9:45AM), 7(9:50AM), 7S(9:55AM), 7SX(10:00AM), 5-1600(10:05AM), SF(10:10AM), SM(10:10AM), 9(10:15AM), 3(10:15AM), 17(10:15AM), SPTRK(10:20AM), SPBUG(10:20AM), 11(10:25AM), RHINO(10:25AM). 16) A competitor who is late for his assigned start time will start at the back of the class that is currently starting. 2003/2004 SCORE Baja 1000 winners Ryan Arciero and Mark Miller have entered the Tecate SCORE San Felipe 250 off road race in Class 1. The duo will be piloting the RPS-owned, NITTO Tires sponsored Velocity Class 1 car running a new 37" NITTO tire. We spoke with SCORE officials said today, confirming NITTO Tires is listed as the primary sponsor.Stay tuned for more on this story. Sounds cool. Is Velocity a company of Arciero & Miller? I know they (and Chris Crampton) have prepped and built cars for other people before, is this their own deal?

Nick Baldwin and team, Pre-runs San Felipe.Nick Baldwin and team were in town this weekend to prerun the 250 course. But Baldwin, the driver of the #99 Riviera Trophy Truck, spent very little time out on the course. Instead Nick and his team spent most of their time remodeling a kindergarten classroom here in San Felipe.Last fall prior to the Baja Mil Baldwin, through his Acts of Kindness foundation, made a monetary donation to the Bertha Von Glumer Kindergarten for the restoration of an old classroom being used in the new english language program. At the time he stated that he was willing to help with whatever else was needed. That donation provided a tile floor and books and other learning material. This weekend he proved that his pledge was for his muscle as well as his money. Nick along with five of his employees spent their time refinishing walls, repainting, and installing new lighting fixtures. The old dingy classroom is now bright and vibrant and doesn't even look like the same place. Thanks to Nick Baldwin and his AOK foundation, the 60 english students have a much improved learning environment.Nick has stated that his help here will be ongoing and not just something to do with ths San Felipe 250.Mr Baldwin can only be commended for his active involvment in the lives of the school children here in San Felipe.
