KUMHO Launches NEW Offroad Racing Tire

Breaking NEWS, Exclusively on Baja Racing News.

KUMHO Tires announces its release of the new CORR Track tire at the San Diego racing weekend, start of the racing season. The new tire, is somewhat like a "blank", created so that the race teams can customize the cuts and siping on their tires to fit and meet track, condition and driver needs. The KUMHO MT is available to the public at their local dealers. As you can see in these EXCLUSIVE photos, the design used on the CORR tracks, the NEW CORR Racing Tire(the second photo) and the one sold directly to the public through retail dealers today KUMHO MT(the first photo), are virtually identical.

Here's the Press release:

KUMHO teams set to rock Championship Off Road Racing
RANCHO CUCAMONGA, CA… May 8, 2006…Coming off its most successful season in Championship Off Road Racing, KUMHO Tire has taken big steps to ensure that 2006 is even more successful. The 2006 CORR season kicks off May 15 with a media day at Chula Vista, CA, followed by the first race weekend of the season May 19-21, also at Chula Vista.
KUMHO will be back again as the official tire of CORR and is looking to improve on last year’s 22 race wins and 63 podium finishes. A phenomenal finish to the 2005 season in Chula Vista set the table for what should be a big season for the KUMHO-shod teams in 2006.
Back for his fourth straight season on KUMHOs is the ringleader of the Amsoil Lubricants/KUMHO Tires Super Team, Dan “The Flying Dutchman” Vanden Heuvel. In 2005, Vanden Heuvel went to the last race of the season in San Diego sitting fifth in points in the tough PRO2 class. He won both weekend races, overtaking some very big names and finishing second in points.
Moving up from the Sportsman ranks and joining Dan in PRO2 is Mike Oberg, who also drives for the Amsoil Lubricants/KUMHO Tire Super Team. After starting 2005 with some bad luck, Mike was literally and figuratively on fire from the Topeka rounds on. He’ll bring his explosive driving style to the pro ranks, where he will likely be an early season favorite for the Pro Rookie of the Year award.
Chad Hord, driver of the Nissan/KUMHO Boss Snow Plow, will be back again to take another crack at dethroning Jeff Kincaid for the 2006 ProLite crown. Chad visited victory lane six times in 2005 and finished a very close second in the points chase.
Also joining the KUMHO CORR team in 2006 is a giant of a man, both in stature and in off-road racing: El Cajon’s own Scott Douglas. Carrying the Amsoil Lubricants/KUMHO Tire Super Team banner in PRO4, and the Rancho Suspension/KUMHO Tire banner in PRO 2, Douglas will be a serious contender for the sweep of both big horsepower classes. Douglas will also give KUMHO Tire a presence in the desert, campaigning his Ford Explorer in the Best In The Desert racing series. Scott’s Explorer will wear LT315/75R16 Road Venture AT tires--the same tires that consumers can put on their vehicles.Adding to all this excitement is a new state-of-the-art KUMHO tire for CORR competition, the Road Venture MT KL71. “Our guys pulled out all the stops with a killer new design, construction, and compounds,” said Ed Cercek, principal engineer for light truck tires. “The new tire and our driver lineup should make 2006 an exciting season for KUMHO in Championship Off Road Racing.”
