Cadiente managed to start the weekend of racing off right; qualifying second even with a dying transmission during the six-mile time trial sprint for start position. The race began with an all out sprint for the overall lead between the nimble Class 1 cars and the powerful Trick Trucks. Cadiente was able to stay out in front of the pack for the entire race, suffering only a few minor problems. Cadiente had this to say about the 300-mile off-road battle, “We had a great time, the truck worked well. My partner Ron Whittion and team were right there with support. We got a flat trying to pass Weyhrich, which ended our shot at an overall. We had a few more problems with the brakes and a couple more flats after that, but we were able to push through and stay in front. The course was nasty and fast. Casey and the whole Best in the Desert organization did a great job putting this course together.”
This moves Ron Whittion into second place in the challenge for The Best in The Desert point’s championship, well within striking distance of first place. “I feel confident, we know we can beat these guys. We just have stay focused and not make mistakes. This is off-road racing, anything can happen!” stated the determined Ron Whitton.
