Brian Ickler and Kash Vessels to take on Baja 1000

Ickler and Vessels in Baja 1000 race for November

Brian Ickler is racing out of North Carolina this season on the Camping World East tour with hopes of landing a NASCAR Nationwide Series or Craftsman Trucks ride for 2009. Ickler, 22, and his backers – most notably parents Kurt and Lauri with support from Chevrolet – are footing the bill for his expedition into NASCAR.

“My car is all black,” Ickler said of his Chevy, which carries no sponsorship other than contingency supporters. “I'm laying it all on the line. “I've sacrificed a lot. But I realized this is a gamble I needed to take if I'm going to make it in this sport.” Last year, Ickler, driving for Bill McAnally Racing, led the Camping World West series in wins.

Brian Ickler, who is venturing into NASCAR, has been racing for nine years. Breaking into SCORE off-road racing at 14. He won his class of the 2003 Baja 1000 and will return to the 1000 in November to co-drive a TrophyTruck with future brother-in-law Kash Vessels.
