CLASS 1 TEAM TAKES OVERALL & TROPHY TRUCK CRASH SERIOUSLY INJURES CHASE TEAM MEMBER SENDING HIM ON LIFEFLIGHT BACK TO THE STATES

Armin Schwarz and Marten Christensen in the All German Motorsports Class 1, dusted the overall win at this years SCORE San Felipe 250 by around 5 minutes over the Trophy Truck Team of Jesse Jones (76) and last years Trophy Truck champion, Robby Gordon (1).
The All German team received a gift from SCORE with its pole position in the Class 1 division. The lead starting position in their class, gave the AGM team only one thing to focus on. The Trophy Trucks. The Trophy Trucks started before the Class 1's, the only thing the AGM team had to really fret were the mechanicals. Like flat tires and the other breakables that the Trophy Trucks had serious problems with, in this race.

The race seemed like a cluster of mangled race vehicles and dark horses. The reports of Trophy Truck mechanical failures is only today being confirmed. The AGM team for years, has been focusing on eliminating such failures. Including, but not limited to, its use of a smart 'self contained vehicle jack system', to reduce the turnaround time for tire flats.

From the AGM Press Release dated 3-13-2010-

"We clinched overall victory at today’s San Felipe 250 with our All German Motorsports Buggy! This incredible success came as kind of a great surprise. Because this race with its long highspeed stretches and monster bumps clearly is like tailor made terrain for the 850 hp-all wheel drive Trophy Trucks. That we made it back as winners to San Felipe at the Mexican east coast was mainly thanks to the immaculate preparation of our Class 1 Buggy through the AGM team and a suspension set-up that allowed us to go much faster than last year without risking damage.

I drove the first stint and managed to keep within good striking distance to the top. For the second half Martin Christensen took the wheel, put in a fantastic drive and won five minutes ahead of our best competitor."

JCR Honda Report

Another big win for JCR/Honda at this past weekend's SCORE San Felipe, Baja 250. If you have ever had the chance to ride around San Felipe, Baja Mexico you know that the area's whooped out, washed out and rocky terrain is among the worst on the planet.

With a terrific effort, JCR/Honda's Colton Udall and Jeff 'OX' Kargola riding the 3x Honda CRF450X, crossed the finish line in first place! The celebration erupted as Colton Udall and OX relished in the triumph of a hard fought race.

The JCR/Honda 1x Honda CRF450X bike was ridden solo by Kendall Norman and came out swinging. Starting 3 minutes behind the first bike off the line. Kendall had put the bike in the lead by the 70 mile marker and was on his way to clean air when a 65mph get off sent him to the ground hard and the bike even harder.

With bike repairs in the middle of the desert necessary, Kendall was left to sit and wait for 30 minutes as the team replaced the handlebars, sub frame and pipe. Kendall made his way back to 4th place by the end of the race.

"I am not sure on all information, but the SCORE insurance is taking care of the medical. I am not sure about the damages yet. We have contacted the Mexican Insurance which luckily is a reputable company and starting that process. Since neither of the teams have been in this situation I don't know what will happen. Truly, that part hasn't even really come to mind yet. Safe return of our team members has been the main focus so far."

ORIGINAL STORY
In a horrific incident deep in the race course, a trophy truck careened into a chase truck and chase crew team members, seriously injuring one person badly enough, to require the injured be flown to San Diego for medical services.

The incident also occurred at the very same location of the COPS Team melee from last years race. Two years in a row a race car goes into the crowd at the same locale! Lightning does strike twice!

The Trophy Truck badly missed a curve, two trucks hit, one guy run over who was able to jump before he got hit, airlifted with back and neck pain, couldn't move one of his legs. This all after some power steering repairs, earlier on this trophy truck, at Devils Dry Lake Bed.








"That is my F350 in the picture and my feet hanging out from underneath the front of the race truck trying to help our friend and navigator, who was supposed to be getting into our race truck. So before the rumors, questioning and so forth gets out of hand, please listen up.

The guy who was hit has been racing for 25 years, the other 3 of us for about 4 years. We know the rule about pitting on the outside of a corner, in hindsight, we weren't far enough over, yet we truly felt we were far enough away from the course and down from the corner to be harms way. Actually, it wasn't even a discussion because we were out of play. We were next to Baja Pits and before the check point. That section of racecourse was marked extremely well.

The person who got hit is in stable condition right now. Extremely banged up, but lucky to be alive. The truck did run him over before slamming into my truck. I will let his family post more details about his condition, if they wish.

As far as the TSCO team, there aren't any ill feelings from our team to theirs. As racers (all 4 people in our pit are also drivers), we all have blown corners. It happens. And again, it didn't appear we were on the "outside" of a corner in harms way. The driver and team from TSCO were very helpful and hung around to do what they could. Baja Pits and many others were extremely helpful through out the entire ordeal. I wish I knew who they all were to thank them personally. SCORE Ops did absolutely great as well. We greatly appreciate all of their efforts getting help to us and getting our friend out safely.

This is something that happened that we all would like to look back on and see the should haves and would haves and why didn't we, but we can't change that.

Thanks to all who were out there and who lent a hand when we needed it. Also, thanks to Edgar M who was able to get the 350 running after this. We were able to drive it back to S.F. and today it was driven back to the U.S."

It needs to be said that his team soldiered on after the incident (at the encouraging of the injured rider) but it appears they took the winn in class 7-2. Most of this was heard over the race radio relay during the race.

Kelly Ross is in UCSD hospital having tests run. They will at least keep him overnight for observation. He told his wife, Terri, to take his seat and finish the race. Mark G is waiting for her, so he can get her to San Diego. The Wierich trophy truck drivers stayed with Kelly, until the helicopter arrived to take him to hospital. They flew him out because they did not have the test equipment that he needed in San Felipe. Details LOADING>>>

"Official Results Are Delayed Due to Technical Problems.

A compatibility problem between the IRC data and the SCORE review software prevented a complete tracking review from taking place. Starting at the 2009 Baja 500, SCORE promised a complete review of all IRC tracking data in order to achieve official results. This temporary problem will not undermine SCORE's strong commitment to review all tracking data prior to publishing official results. While this delay is certainly very frustrating for the racers, SCORE sincerely appreciates racer patience while this problem is being solved."

"From my personal point of view (maybe correct or wrong): SCORE has done a great job over 30 plus years holding Off-road races in Mexico and the US, but times come when you need to do changes and adapt to the changes of time of how you need to do things, change the old system of how you run SCORE to a new way to run SCORE. It's not fare that all of the races teams that raced the SF250 invested thousands of dollars in races expenses just to race BAJA from the little guy in the Blaster quad or Class 11 to Trophy-Trucks. Comes saturday you race DNF, Finish or Win, comes Sunday SORRY no awards ceremony whe have a problem with our software of SCORE and IRC. Come on the No.1 Premier Sactioning Body of Off Road Racing having this type of issues at this modern age of technology, it's complete BS. SCORE needs to look at how ASO puts races and take a page of there system, at NASCAR and look how does guys promete the sport and have a great marketing program. If SCORE continues to run there series like there are doing and continue to have the same types of problem that they are having with there racers and racing SCORE it's not cheap. Whe will not see SCORE being No.1 in a short time, Sal Fish needs to give hes trone to a new guy with vision and talent and ungry to take SCORE to the next level and give to it's racers a quality product (series and races). Mastercraft Places Three Finishers in the Top Ten

""For all of Mastercrafts Robbie Pierce’s generosity, combined with a healthy dose of hard work, the MasterCraft Racing team was rewarded with three trucks in the top ten of SCORE’s premiere Trophy-Truck class. Will Staats finished in 9th place, Rob MacCachren finished in 8th, and MasterCraft Safety CEO Robbie Pierce placed fourth in San Felipe, his highest finish ever in SCORE’s preeminent class.

Finishing just off the podium in a crowded field of 31 SCORE Trophy-Trucks did not come easily for Pierce, who improved upon his 8th place finish from San Felipe a year ago. Fourth off of the line, any hopes of running in clean air were dashed for Pierce just two miles into the race when his No. 30 Jimco truck threw a power steering belt off of the 800+ horsepower V8 engine while trying to avoid a spectator on Zoo Road. Instead of being out front as he hoped, Pierce was passed by all the other SCORE Trophy-Truck competitors in the infamous San Felipe whoops. “Fortunately we had a spare belt in the truck, but it cost us twenty minutes to change,” Pierce commented after the race. Pierce was able to regain the time to overtake most of the field throughout the remainder of the race, putting him in 6th place for the season. Despite sharp rocks and brutal terrain, the three MasterCraft Racing SCORE Trophy-Trucks only suffered from two flat tires. “I really believe that the preparations and logistics that the entire MasterCraft Racing team did for the SCORE San Felipe 250 made all of the difference.”

Pierce’s words rang true for the rest of the team as well. The No. 20 Rockstar Energy / MasterCraft Safety SCORE Trophy-Truck of Rob MacCachren had to overcome numerous obstacles before the green flag even dropped! The truck suffered catastrophic engine failure just a week prior to the MasterCraft Safety Tecate SCORE San Felipe 250, testing the dedication of not only MasterCraft Racing’s world-class pit crew but chassis builder Jimco, Kroyer Racing Engines, and Rancho Drivetrain as well. All parties involved worked tirelessly through the week prior to the race and MacCachren’s drivetrain worked flawless in San Felipe, but suspension damage limited his speed over the notoriously rough course. Still, his 8th place finish in San Felipe, coupled with his 7th place finish at the SCORE Laughlin Desert Challenge in January, have MacCachren well poised for a run at the SCORE season championship with three races remaining.

Will Staats rounded out the MasterCraft Racing team with a 9th place finish in his No. 42 SCORE Trophy-Truck. Staats was incredibly fast over the course and was running in front for much of the day, but a damaged torque converter reared its ugly head at Race Mile 180, requiring Staats to nurse his Jimco truck around the last 80 miles of the course. After reaching the checkered flag, Staat’s truck had to be physically towed from the finish line due to the destroyed torque converter! “You can’t plan much better than that,” Staats joked after the race. “San Felipe has a reputation as one of the toughest courses in all of desert racing, so for all three MasterCraft Racing SCORE Trophy-Trucks to finish is impressive, and to all be in the top ten is amazing.”

Held along the Sea of Cortez in picturesque Baja California, Mexico, the 2010 MasterCraft Safety Tecate SCORE San Felipe 250 marked round two of SCORE International’s five race desert series. The course traversed 248 miles of sandy washes, deep silt beds, and incredibly rough rocky and whooped out terrain. Look for the MasterCraft Racing team to turn their good karma and exceptional work ethic into a victory at the 42nd annual SCORE Baja 500 in beautiful Ensenada, Baja California on June 4-6, 2010.""



Cody Robinson Bangs San Felipe's BAJA 250 2010


""SAN FELIPE — El Centro’s Cody Robinson has an exciting story to tell from the SCORE International Off-Road Series’ 24th annual San Felipe 250 here this past weekend. The class 1/2-1600 racer won his class race, finishing 30th overall, to move in the lead in the class points championship and did it in dramatic fashion. Teamed with Mexicali’s Roberto Romo, the team faced four flat tires, a torn alternator belt, no power steering and no second gear. “It would have been a lot nicer if we didn’t have any problems,” Robinson said. “We pulled through and overcame everything and still got the win.” Romo drove the first 80 miles of the race. He had to change the torn alternator belt at about the 40th mile of the race. Then drove for about 20 miles on a flat tire before replacing it at a pit stop. When Robinson took over at mile-marker 80, the duo was in seventh place in the class. At mile-marker 100, Robinson lost second gear.

At about the 160th mile maker, he lost the power steering belt and drove for about 40 miles without it before changing it at a pit stop — not to mention three flat tires during his stint behind the wheel. “I honestly didn’t think I was going to win,” Robinson said. “I had pits everywhere and they all helped a lot.” Nonetheless, the team stayed the course and won their class by about 8 minutes.

Also at the race, Germany’s Armin Schwarz and Denmark’s Martin Christensen captured the overall and unlimited class 1 victory. The race featured 257 racers.
