CRACKHEADS VS DRUNK PIRATES!
Crackhead El Whackjob Trophy Truck #2 VS Drunk Pirate Dave Cole #118 Class 1
(pic titled “drunk pirates rock donkey 118 Baja 1000 2010 Baja Racing News LIVE”)
As some of you may have heard, the drunk pirates are putting together a hair brained idea to race a rock crawler in the Baja 1000 in November from
Ask the Camburg boys who thought it was OK to enter their Punk Ranger in Trophy Truck. To some of you this is a grand adventure, to others it is a real race, don't mess it up for them”.
Last years 1000 we caught a another pro truck that was out donkeying around and the second he realized a Jeep caught'em he picked up his speed just enough so we could'nt get past him. We ate his dust for 40 miles...
Fuckin dick head for sure, but we just dealt with it...
It's racing.”
Are you kidding me, "If the car meets the rules why not race it in Class1?" - Dumb Ass - Class 1 is UNLIMITED, a Yamaha Rhino meets the rules. If this was
Have you seen us race? Have you been around these drivers before? Before you judge or assume their car is too slow or they have limited experience, you may want to see the car and drivers in action first. Many of these guys have huge amounts of seat time and helpfull friends with vast amounts of desert racing experience behind them. They may surprise you!
And like Filarski said, any pro car/truck/driver can mess up the race for everyone behind them.....and there is a good chance this 4x4 Class 1 car can bypass any traffic jam baja throws at them.”
“My first baja 1000 driving was in 1985 in class 1600. Since then I have driven in 9 baja 1000 and won 3 of them. Have raced in class 1600 ,5-1600, 5 unlimited, 8 and 1700.
Drunk Pirate Lance Clifford has 3 baja 1000 wins and a 500 win in class 7.2
Shaffer has many wins and score and bitd championships to his credit.
Mello, 100 off road wins to his name and last I checked one of them is a baja 1000 1st place trophy.
Dave the car owner and "new guy" has limited desert race experience so if that is who you are worried about I would not not sweat it to much. He is driving the last leg.
Our core chase crew knows their way around the peninsula and approach the race with a level of commitment and professionalism that rivals any team in the sport. Bar none.
So while we may be bringing an unconventional car to race, don't think for a second that it is not a legit race effort. If we didn't think it belonged in an unlimited class we would not be racing in that class.”
What aspect about drunk pirates race program do you feel is going to interfere with with other competitors race ?
In my 25 years of desert racing I can recount story after story of my teams aiding other competitors with everything from lifesaving medical aid, to search and rescue assistance, lending of parts, more repair assistance then I can remember, our planning covers everything from pre running every mile to having all 30 team members emergency contact info and blood type on file.
So unless you are counting getting beat by a bunch of rock donkeys as screwing with others race you are simply misinformed. It's not full-time 4WD...they can put it in RWD only if they want.
Make no mistake about it. We are coming to compete and we know exactly what the requirements are to do so.”
..... Silverstate 300 our first car was less than an hour behind the overall winner. It was his first desert race, and the next three cars where all right with him. The Ultra4 cars are not getting passed by 1600 cars, and in fact they are passing faster cars in front of them early on. Some of the guys at Silverstate stopped for every car stuck in the silt and pulled them out, and still made it to the finish line before it closed. Bad sportsmanship?
Its not unheard of for the Ultra4's to dig into the 7200 within a hundred miles. I would have to go look it up but Ultra4 cars beat class one and TT's in the Silverstate as well. Because they got beat by a rock crawler do they not deserve to race in TT or C1?
Ultra4 cars are Unlimited 4x4 vehicles. There is only one rule.... It needs a two speed transfer case that is operational. Since SCORE does not recognize the Ultra4 class, than the car fits in Class one. Plain and simple. I understand that you would suggest it race sportsman but really? Do you think anyone really wants to race a car like this in sportsman? IT Sucks! I know this because at the 2009 Vegas to
Dave’s co-dog chimed in: “for the record, I was Dave's co-dog in the #4454, now #118, for the Vegas to
A desert race fan concluded, “I buy everything accept for the TT would never catch you in the rough stuff. Trophy Trucks are the baddest off road vehicles on the face of the earth and they are specially designed and built for hauling butt over rough stuff. If you think a 4 wheel drive class 1 is amazing in the rough, well you ain't seen nuthin yet. I think your driver already knew that though and THAT is why he pulled over
Most of the time buggy's are designed to be light and nimble with large doses of HP. It's 2 different approaches. The TT is big and heavy with MASSIVE amounts of HP and built to smash through the desert while the buggy takes more of a float like a butterfly and sting like a bee approach. I'm very interested to see how a heavy 4 wheel drive class 1 does against the other class 1 cars. It should be very informative.
I've seen the numbers from the Master Piece in Metal 4 wheel drive class 1 car in Dirt Sports and I hope the numbers were misprinted. It showed the buggy right at 5000 lbs with 600 hp. If those are real numbers they don't seem to add up to well.”
