Robby Gordons Father 'Baja Bob' Found Dead with woman Possible Murder Suicide

UPDATE: 12-Noon, Thursday
The coroners office has identified the victims as Robert (Father) and Sharon Gordon (Stepmother). Detectives said it appears to have been a murder-suicide.

ROBBY GORDON COMMENTS

Robby Gordon just told the Orange County Register that his father missed a doctor's appointment Wednesday, which is when he and others became concerned. They began a search, and his dad's best friend, Jay Hooker, an old racing friend, discovered the bodies and called police.

Robby Gordon declined comment on what happened until after he talks with the coroner, but said he believes he may know what occurred. Bob Gordon, his son said, was instrumental in launching the careers of many young drivers including NASCAR champion Jimmie Johnson, who rode with Bob in off-road races.

"This is devastating," Robby Gordon said, fighting back tears. "He taught so many, and I want everyone to know what a good man he was." Gordon said his off-road races at the Costa Mesa fairgrounds will go on as scheduled because of business commitments. "And to switch from what happened to a business mode really stinks," Gordon said.

Robby Gordon has three sisters. One, Beccy, had a child Wednesday. Robbie Gordon learned to ride horses at his family’s home in Orange. He learned to drive a car there, too. But on Thursday morning, he stood in a driveway adjacent to that house – and fought back tears.

“The truth will come out,” the race car driver said in a short statement to reporters about the death of his father, “Baja Bob” Gordon and his wife, Sharon Gordon.

CANCELED APPEARANCE

Robby Gordon was at an adjacent house Thursday and was seen leaving and returning several times in a truck with tinted windows. Robby Gordon canceled a motivational speech scheduled for Thursday at Chapman Hills Elementary School in Orange, said principal Sana Saenz. Gordon was scheduled to speak at a school-wide assembly about setting goals to achieve your dreams, she said. Jill Dombroske, a longtime neighbor, said the Gordons were longtime residents of the quiet Orange neighborhood, where large homes sit on expansive hillside properties and many people own horses.

Residents were out Thursday morning walking and riding horses on dirt trails that run along the winding hillside roads. "I feel very sad," she said. "Everyone here will be very sad.".

6AM Original Reporting: The father of NASCAR racer and Off-Road Superstar Robby Gordon was found dead along with a woman believed to be his wife ... inside a Southern California home owned by his son. Officials say 68-year-old Robert Gordon -- aka Baja Bob -- an Off-Road Racing Superstar in his own right, was discovered inside the home on Wednesday. The body of 57-year-old Sharon Gordon was also found inside the home.

A 68-year-old man and 57-year-old woman were found dead today inside of an Orange county home, but an investigator said it is believed there are no outstanding suspects, suggesting at least one death was from suicide. “We’re fairly confident the problem is contained within the house,” said Lt. Fred Lopez of the Orange Police Department. Their bodies were discovered around 5 p.m. in the exclusive Orange Park Acres area, the 1400 block of North Kennymead Street and the cause of their deaths was under investigation, according to Lopez.

Property records show Robby has owned the home since 1989. A neighbor was asked to check on the couples welfare on Wednesday, that's when the situation was discovered.

Our thoughts and prayers are with the Gordon family.
