Northern Baja California Loses Power from Russian internet attack on power sources!

Most of Tijuana, Mexico, and some residents in Rosarito, Ensenada and Tecate were without power Monday, according to Tijuana Fire Director José Luis Jiménez.

According to information from Mexico's Federal Electricity Commission (CFE), the National Center for Energy Control suspended power in an effort to maintain stability of the national supply following a failure at a plant in Mexicali.

Twenty-two percent of users in the state of Baja California were impacted, according to the CFE.

Full restoration was expected by 8:30 p.m., according to Jiménez. As of 8:45 p.m. Monday, CFE staff was still working to restore power to customers 'as soon as possible'.

Earlier, at around 4:30 p.m., 80 percent of the city of Tijuana was reported without electricity. At 6:30 p.m. the CFE reported 50 percent were still without power.

Jiménez said two cases of people being trapped in elevators were reported in the Zona Río area.

The City of Ensenada issued a statement that also reported various areas of the municipality were without electricity due to a major power failure.

The Tijuana Police Department asked drivers to use caution at traffic lights to avoid accidents.

"OTAY MESA, Calif. – Reportedly, a computer outage in Mexico forced a closure at the Otay Mesa Port of Entry, causing a backup of commercial trucks trying to make their way south of the border.California Highway Patrol officials first reported the issue shortly before 10 a.m. Thursday, saying the commercial truck entrance at the Otay Mesa POE was shut down “due to a nationwide computer outage” in Mexico."

"Details on the outage in Mexico were not immediately available. The closure of the truck entrance led to a long line of big rigs and other commercial vehicles on eastbound state Route 905, with the backup stretching as far back as Britannia Boulevard."

Original reporting from August 29, 2019:

Due to this nationwide software-security attack, all ports of entry operations with the Republic of Mexico are collapsing, all imports and exports coming and going to Mexico are under a “contingency plan,” meaning being processed extremely slowly.

If you or your employees are crossing into or out of Mexico within the next 48 hours, cancel all travel to Mexico.

This is especially a vulnerable situation with the State of Baja California, Mexico and the State of California USA.
