Baja Weather Service reports on conditions in Baja South August 2019 Tropical Storm Ivo

Tropical Storm Ivo Hits Baja South!

Widespread heavy showers throughout southern Baja struck at weeks end and has left large parts of the state frozen in standing water and mud.

Much of southern Baja Mexico is swamped! Civil authorities are addressing big issues. The federal, state and local officials are bringing drinking water to communities, rescuing residents and marshaling resources to meet the needs of communities throughout the state. First reports indicate these services may take months to recover normal daily life for the local citizens.

Known locally as 'chubascos', the brief but very strong rainfall, also produced numerous 'twisters' and high winds.

General transportation over paved links between towns are driveable, but, many small communities connected by dirt roads are not reachable at this hour.

By the start of week on Monday, August 26, much of the state should be open to transportation and communication.

Lots of mud in Baja Sur. Or as the locals say, lodo, mucho lodo. Tropical storm Iva rained enough in southern Baja California, Mexico to disrupt transportation and communications for a week. The messy stuff will last into September. Keep in mind, September is the stormiest month in Baja California, lots of rain, wind and waves at times. Stay advised.

September, the stormiest month of the year, begins a week from today, with a greater chance of tormentas and more chubascos!
