UPDATE September 14:

"Over 50 years I've driven a lot of things. I've never driven something like this. On the road it floats over potholes and bumps. On the Highway it loafs along at 65 MPH at 2800 RPM. The steering is race quick but driveable on the road. We'll also offer a longer rack for those who want one. The power is Huge and amazing. All runs cool, Engine/Gearbox/diff's. Transfer case needs sound deadening which we'll do. Minor tweaks and a lot of testing ahead. When we're done it will be IMHO the greatest road legal Baja 1000/Paris Dakar capable vehicle in the world. It's a modern Rambo Lambo."

SCG Boot Shakedown! August 31, 2019 at Johnson Valley, California.

"The SCG Boot has made her maiden voyage to the deserts of California.

It has been a pleasure working with such an incredible team to develop this vehicle. We have been very fortunate to be able to take an iconic design, originally created by the legendary Vic Hickey, and put our own modern spin on it.

Out of the box the vehicle handles incredibly. We can't wait to get her dialed in, and then put it to the ultimate test."

SCG Boot Exclusive Baja Racing News Breaking Glickenhaus Project UPDATES
"Glickenhaus Boot" Baja Street legal Prerunner News Releases: Boot body panels getting fit up now. Who wants to drive this rear engine all wheel drive beast, for the 2019 Baja 1000 desert off-road race?

It's supercharged, street legal, off-road, made by Scuderia Glickenhaus! A racecar, Trophy Truck, Baja Boot with a pedigree of design genius Vic Hickey, Hollywood Icon Steve Mcqueen, building today by Armada Engineering of Chatsworth California USA.

Racing off-road in the desert wastes of Baja Mexico is one of the most arduous motorsport activities in the world.

Low-volume sportscar manufacturer Scuderia Cameron Glickenhaus plans to play in the unique SCG Baja Boot in November, 2019.

US-based SCG is better known for the sportscars it produces and races at the Nurburgring 24 Hour. With new rules implemented for the 24 Hours of Le Mans now pit the small-scale manufacturer against works outfits such as Aston Martin and Toyota on the world stage.

The infamous Baja Boot

In the inaugural Baja 1000 event, held in 1967, actor Steve McQueen competed in a vehicle called the "Baja Boot", designed by Vic Hickey and sponsored by George Hurst . This very icon is owned by SCG founder James Glickenhaus, the former Hollywood movie producer turned small-batch supercar manufacturer.

Last year the SCG head honcho asked his design team to produce a modern version of the Baja Boot. The SCG Boot was unveiled this week. The aim of the reimagined racer is to compete in the Baja 1000 2019 in a specialized stock class and then drive back home.

“This November we are going to drive our Glickenhaus Baja Boot from San Diego to Ensenada, race the Baja 1000, and drive home. What’s not to like?” Jim Glickenhaus, company founder.

Race engineered

Powering the SCG version is a 485 kW GM-sourced V8. To be competitive in the Baja 1000 the SCG Boot has been built with competition in mind first and foremost. It has four-wheel independent suspension with 480 mm of travel,  40-inch tires, Wilwood brakes and that’s just in standard, road-going form.

In full race trim it has race suspension, with increased travel and strengthened components, dual dampers front and rear, larger brake discs, racing tires measuring 37-inches in size and long-range fuel tanks.

“We welcome any manufacture that makes an SUV to race our new Boot in the 2019 Baja 1000 in a stock SUV class. The Baja 1000 has a stock VW Bug class, a stock truck class, and soon, a stock SUV class.” Jesse Glickenhaus, managing director of SCG.
