RACE DAY V2R 2021 LIVE RACE TRACKING

RIP Darren Dryer UTV Pilot

BITD SPECIAL STATEMENT  5PM

"As many of you following Vegas to Reno are aware we had an incident at Race Mile 11 that caused us to put a temporary hold on the start of the race. A UTV driver, Darren Dryer, was involved in a serious  incident after he elected to leave his race vehicle and walk back to a checkpoint after breaking down. Unfortunately the driver in question has succumbed to injuries after being struck by another race vehicle while attempting to cross the course. Despite BITD Rescue Staff and air medical support being on site the injuries were simply too severe. Everyone at BITD is deeply saddened by this development and will share more information as it becomes available. We have gone back to live racing as of 3:55pm"

LIVE RACE DAY COVERAGE!

Hello Race Fans!

  • Our humble newspaper, based in Ensenada, Baja Mexico, Officially would like to express our salutations to the Best In The Desert organization. Thanks for stepping up the online coverages, great job! It does need to be said, desert racing in general, is far behind the rest of the world. CLICK HERE to see the WSL in Mexico, in the water, the Pacific Ocean, sending online live coverage of a surfing event. West coast, desert racing is at least fifteen years behind, surfing? Just look at the total financial values of both industries. The companies involved in trucks and desert racing are fleecing its customers, period, full stop! Please, step it up trucks, desert racing!

9AM NOTICE***

Staging for the 4-wheel competitors has begun. The MONSTERS of the MIDWAY will launch into the Nevada desert at 10AM, Zulu Time, local.

  • LIVE! Deep in the Nevada desert. At the start of the moto competition. At 9AM the four-wheel competitors will begin staging for their start at 10AM.
  • Our links above will bring you the leaders of the race throughout the day and the tracking link, thanks to Racing Traxx, will bring you closer to the action.

We'll be LIVE! ONLINE throughout the race event, until the top three leaders finish and cross the goal.

NATIONAL PowerHouse is a group of off-duty and retired logistics professionals, melded to bring BajaRacingNews.com the fullest storyline of desert racing. Yes, we are listening to every race relay channel. Special thanks and prayers to 'Radio Bob' Hynes, [RLH Comm] one of our original patrons.

Down south, a note about the conditions, Nevada in mid-August, nuff said? There is smoke blowing through the course at different levels.

We are expecting normal desert temperatures, both day and night. Mostly clear skies. Or as our commentators have said, cobalt blue skies.

Up north, the story is different. 66 degrees at RM 40 at 7:45 AM. Dust update: rained last night at pit 11. WX (weather) prospect for the same for this afternoon. Clouds looming around the area this morning with expectations for more rain this afternoon.

  • We were LIVE! at Las Vegas Nevada, just wrapping up the party after the drivers meeting.
The premier desert racing event in the United States of America is on, for early tomorrow. The Desert Championship of Off-Road are banging for points and respect, as the biggest teams take on Vegas to Reno, something else is happening in off-road racing!

French corporate hoods for MICHELIN, BFGoodrich Tires and Jackson Motorsports, luckily have nothing to do with the design of this race course and the emergency medical response in this event!

An overly inflated entry list that includes dozens of Trick Trucks and so many hundreds of UTVs across the Pro classes, not to mention the usual assortment of motorcycles, quads, and additional four-wheel vehicles, this event is a prime example of the over-inflated economy we are living in today, pumping inflation pressures, to the max.

After four years of Obama and the Fed's "quantitative easing", four years of Trump and his massive treasury "tax-steal for the rich" and now the covid relief funds, the Federal Reserve has pushed so many dollars into the southwest economy, even the dankest desert hillbilly's dreams have cash-money for some desert racin'!

I interviewed a few racers before and after the racers meeting and one thing is clear. Wow, there's lots of cash flying around the streets of Las Vegas. The Federal Reserve has done a good job of keeping everything afloat, so much so, the ocean of money being spent just on desert racing, is obvious. *Many people racing today are very green and very uninformed*.

Lots of 'team guys' are receiving unemployment, so they don't have to work. Many 'business owners' are getting covid relief grants, they don't have to work. Can you say, Mo-Mo-"Free money!"

They are all spending money on getting their kicks, here, deep in the desert southwest. Racing in the Vegas To Reno, 25th Annual event.

The Vegas to Reno course is the longest single-day point-to-point race in the United States. It makes the  pussified Martelli Midgets Gitt-Out, Fuct-Festival scheduled for Christmas, look like a kiddy crap.

A last-minute course change due to the obvious atmospheric heating generated flash-flooding, has shortened the length of the race by four miles between Pits 7 and 8, but drivers and teams will still have nearly 500 miles of delightful desert gardens to dance in, as they make their way to Reno.

Say it out loud desert rats, no masks, no vaxx and no global warming!

I haven't seen one mask wearing racer all week. Except, indoors.

Bryce Menzies, BJ Baldwin and some interloper from FORD drift videos, topped Wednesday’s time trial charts in the premier Trick Truck class. We wonder if BJ was offered the chance to get MONSTER funded with a new geiser ride and race with jax and the papas&crime crew? Or just kicked to the curb?

Ken Block, the guy who stole BJ Baldwins MONSTER Energy money, surprised with the third-fastest time in class while qualifying on the Ampudia's and Redline’s team. Block and Alex Gelsomino, his rallying co-driver, will start and run the majority of the race.

Tim Herbst and Eric Hustead completed the Trick Truck top five, while CJ Hutchins was the top 1500 qualifier.

May we suggest a rule change for qualifying? The crashes for the Hollandia/DeJong and Concrete Motorsports teams during qualifying, resulted in Kevin Thompson and Harley Letner starting from back on the grid. Maybe the the Number 1 plate or the guy that won the last race should always be granted first off the line for the very next race?

Shameful Thompson and Letner are being overly penalized for a minor boner.

Conner McMullen surprised by putting a 6200 buggy ahead of all of the 6100 trucks, led by Christopher Polvoorde, in their session. Dalton Shirey beat former Dakar Rally winner Ricky Brabec on the motorcycle qualifying results, while Wheeler Morgan will start first in Class 1000 and UTV Turbo points leader Phil Blurton will look to add yet another Vegas to Reno victory from the top spot.

Phil Blurton only has a nine-point advantage on Mitch Guthrie Jr. in the UTV Turbo duel, while Thompson’s lead over Kyle Jergensen in Trick Truck is a tenuous 15 made even more tenuous after qualifying. The 6100 championship battle is ripe, where Ray Griffith leads Justin Blower by just two points and Dustin Grabowski by four.
