BAJA Racing CENTER EXCLUSIVE! Emergency Vehicle Training Begins in San Diego, AMEX Announces

AMEX American Medical Emergency Xpedition Announces Emergency Vehicle Training in San Diego at opening of Emergency Vehicle Operations Center today, November 10, 2021

The American Medical Emergency Xpedition, a group of front-line medical professionals, started in 1999, announced today the start of its Emergency Vehicle Training at the opening of the first Emergency Vehicle Operations Center today, in San Diego.

'EVOC', the 'Emergency Vehicle Operations Center', is  the first facility of its kind in the cross-border region, that will provide immersive education and continued professional training for future and current first responders, police officers, firefighters, as well as ambulance and public works drivers.

The San Diego County Sheriff's Department will operate the facility Monday through Friday with some weekends. Construction on the $32.4 million project began in October 2020, creating nearly 300 jobs. The City of San Diego and Miramar College each gave $5 million to the project. The State of California mandates training for first responders who operate emergency vehicles.

This 40-acre facility features three venues to meet required state standards: A track for training on how to quickly and safely respond to emergency calls. The center is meant to simulate driving and parking in a city block environment and a skills pad for practicing quick lane changes, controlled braking, evasive maneuvering and driving in reverse.

The EVOC will also be used for cross-border driving safety programs. First responders spend more time driving than any other task. The EVOC will continue to meet our training needs to provide the best public safety services to the people we are sworn to serve and protect.

Groups from Baja California Mexico are invited to participate in no-cost training in a special cross-border education program developed ten years ago by AMEX.

"The goal of the program is to spread life-saving driving techniques throughout the Baja peninsula, in this training program", said mission specialist Steve Davidson of SPEED Mex, a contributing partner to AMEX.
