LIVE! Reporting from Ensenada Baja Mexico

June 3: Contingency is a wrap! RaceDay, Saturday, SEE the RaceDay Schedule>>>

June 2: Pre-Running is wrapping now, in town, here in Ensenada, numerous streets are closed down, preparing for contingency down on the beach and the start of the race.

June 1: The race organizer and a couple of the teams are making the heat out to be a big issue.

We've talked with the 'hobby teams' about the topic, with the news about 'water stations' set out onto the landscape and gotten some interesting comments.

Many teams are laughing at SCORE and any teams that are talking about being afraid of the heat.

There will be water hydration stations in several locations on the course in the lower desert. Know the signs of heat exhaustion. Stop for fluids if needed, there will be courtesy ARMA electrolytes drinks available at the volunteer stations. Approximate locations: RM123 SPEED Mex Pits  RM135 WHORE volunteer hydration stop RM145 tire pit with hydration and IV services RM160 SPEED Mex Pits RM175 WHORE volunteer hydration stop RM180 SPEED Mex Pits hydration stop  RM195 WHORE volunteer hydration stop  RM203 SPEED Mex Pits

May 31: Teams are wrapping up their pre-running and we have some very interesting input from the BIG teams.

Dan and Luke McMillins aren't impressed with the heat. They'll be hydrated and ready to go Friday.

Andy McMillin, like his cousins, has taken the environmental conditions for this race event seriously. He's paced his pre-running and planned his race with all the knowledge of his families wealth of Baja racing experience.

Bryce Menzies, has said several times, what a "technical" course this event has turned out to be.

May 30: The weather here in Ensenada is exactly seasonal. It's what you would expect in the beginning of June.

We have area specific region-wide climates that change over the season and are narrowed even further by topography and the distance inland (eastward) from the Pacific coast toward the eastern seaside Sea of Cortez.

The regions change the further east you go.

From the Mediterranean climate on the Pacific coast, to the inland foothills, where it gets hotter very fast, to the cooler mountains and sharply into the very hot desert regions.

You could say from the eastern edges of the Pacific coast to the coast of the Sea of Cortez is desert. It gets very little rainfall and gets very warm to hot in the spring through late fall.

The exact climate type from in town Ensenada, to the Sea of Cortez, is technically desert.

Temperatures across the race course this weekend will exceed 89 degrees F, 'ambient air temperatures'. Meaning, one foot off the ground, non-moving air temperature, not considering water vapor saturation or direct or indirect sunlight exposures.

It'll be very warm. It's Baja Mexico, in June.

On the ground, in direct sunlight with no moving air, lets say on the pan of a desert dry lake at about high noon...its easily 140 degrees F.

All things die in these conditions, People die all the time out here.

May 28: More Pics and Words, 'Back In The Saddle' from the cutting room floor!

LIVE! REPORTING DEDICATION

LIVE! REPORTING DEDICATION

Our humble reporting this year is dedicated to Bo Hopkins. Stacey David states our thoughts, "I was very sad to hear of the passing of actor Bo Hopkins the other day. Bo was well known for his numerous roles in movies and TV over the years, but to us car guys he will always be known as “Joe the Pharaoh” – the delightful punk/leader of a band of greasers from the movie American Graffiti.

There is a lot being said about Bo and his amazing acting career, but I wanted to take a few minutes and tell you about Bo the person. I first met Bo years ago at a car show that featured several cars and stars from movies like American Graffiti, Cannonball Run, etc. Most of the time you can tell these film and TV guys really don’t want to be there talking about something they did many years ago. This was not the case with Bo. He loved it! He actually went out and bought a chopped ‘50 Merc, similar to what was in American Graffiti, and showed up in his Pharaoh jacket! The place went bananas! Not only did he embrace the character, but he also proved to be an actual car guy, and the people loved it because Bo took time with everybody. A few years later, I did a quick commercial shoot with Bo and his Merc for an event in Las Vegas; once again he was a true pro and a real car guy, and we have been friends ever since.

So, THANKS BO for all the great films and memories! But mostly, thanks for being a real guy that the rest of us could look up to." - Stacey

Here's an incredible 'RODCAST' with Jeff Beck, talks about his passion for 'Graffiti'.
