News Bulletin Netflix Deaths Reported in Baja Mexico

Two actors on the Netflix series The Chosen One were killed and six other cast or crew members were injured after a van crashed near Mulege in the state of Baja California Sur, on the Baja peninsula.


Netflix production was in the Santa Rosalia area the day of the crash 

Local media reported that the crash occurred yesterday, on Thursday and said the van flipped after running off the road in a desert area, after leaving the pavement and striking a rock. The crew had  been working in the nearby Santa Rosalia area at the time.

A source within the production with knowledge of the accident, additionally confirmed to BajaRacingNews.com that the two individuals were killed while in transit from the Santa Rosalia area to a local airport.

"The Baja California Department of Culture confirmed the deaths of Raymundo Garduño Cruz and Juan Francisco González Aguilar “Paco Mufote”. Netflix says 'The Chosen One' is based on the comic book series by Mark Millar and Peter Gross".

“The Chosen One” is the story of a 12-year-old boy coming to the realization that he is the second coming of Christ, and is destined to save humanity. The series released under the name “Chosen.”  Netflix describes the protagonist as a boy who can “turn water into wine, make the crippled walk, and, perhaps, even raise the dead.”

 

"Raymundo Garduño was an actor, stage creator and promoter of the “Inmigrantes Teatro” company, while Juan Francisco, better known as “Paco Mufote”, was an actor, musician and promoter; both worked on the project 'American Jesus', a Netflix production.  Regarding the accident, it was announced that it occurred in Loreto, where the actors were traveling in a van along with more production personnel. There were 6 people injured; Upon arrival at the scene, the paramedics could no longer do anything for "Paco Mufote" and Ray.  The Ministry of Culture of Baja California confirmed the death of both actors. “His absence from him leaves a void in the hearts of all of us who live with him, an honest man with boundless generosity. We will miss you so much Ray.”  Regarding the death of 'Paco Mufote', Governor Marina del Pilar Ávila expressed her condolences and pointed out: "I am very sorry for the sensitive death of Juan Francisco González Aguilar (...) his work and creativity will always be remembered".

Local reports indicate the incident took place at the remote section of the Santa Rosalía-Loreto segment of Highway One. The van reportedly struck a rock and flipped onto the roof of the vehicle.


 





Travelers please beware, the incident location is very far from any hospitals. From that location, victims would be transferred by ground ambulance to La Paz BCS, many hours away.
