An Unlimited Buggy, some race sanctions consider a new generation of competition for the Baja Racing Truck class, overalls an American desert race

Pictured: Connor McMullen driving the number "1540" unlimited "Trophy" buggy in the Legacy racing association '4WP Desert Showdown', last month, in January.

Going into the most technical part of the course and the final stretch of the race, the recent Legacy Pahrump event, Connor was able to maintain his lead over Hustead all the way to the finish line giving him not just the class win in 1500 but the overall win for the race. Hustead would also win his class and finish a little under 6 minutes from Connor.

After a parade through town of all the races vehicles getting cheered on by the locals it was time to wrap up a win for McMullen Racing.

The Pahrump desert is known for having some very fast sections and the first half of the race proved that with Hustead getting to race mile 80 in just under an hour, meaning he was averaging the same mph up to that point. Somewhere between there and mile 102 at PRC 3 something happened to Hustead because both Connor McMullen and Ladd Gilbert were able to get around him physically.

This last weekend in January, the Legacy Racing Association kicked off their 2023 season with the '4WP Desert Showdown' in Pahrump, Nevada.

22-year-old Connor McMullen is a second-generation off-road racer. His father Kevin McMullen was so passionate about off-road racing, he started an off-road repair and fabrication shop to create the opportunity to race more with his customers.

That passion for off-road racing was passed on to Connor who started racing at just 5 years old in trophy karts. After a solid 11 years of racing trophy karts in short-course, he moved up to Class 10 and transferred the skills he had been developing in short-course to the desert.

Connor immediately proved he was going to be a threat at every race winning The Parker 425 twice, Silver State 300 twice, Vegas to Reno, Parker short course race, and the Laughlin Desert Classic 4 times, all culminating in back-to-back BITD Class 10 Championships in 2019 and 2020.

Connor moved up to the 'Trophy Buggy', Unlimited Buggy division and began methodically building his resume by winning multiple races and championships.

In 2022 he got the call all off-road racers hope for.  Brenthel Industries hired him as a paid driver for their Unlimited Truck Spec and put him in the stacked field of racers. Not only did Connor shine, he won multiple races and finished his rookie year winning both the BITD and Legacy Racing Championships.

Is this rig a qualified Ultra4, Trophy Buggy that Connor drove to the overall victory in Pahrump, Nevada, the next generation in competition with the vaunted Baja Racing Truck?

The truck, considered the Trick Truck class with Best In The Desert in the recent past and Trophy Truck class in SCORE International and T1 class in the Ultra4 sanction, has been leading the field in the BAJA Desert Championship for some time.

Dave Cole was quoted as saying, "Oh-OK", after being notified of the historic win in Nevada. The veiled meaning being, he was disappointed this news didn't happen during his drunken CF cluster-fuck, scheduled this month.

Coles failed unlimiteds event, the 'desert challenge' at the king of the hammeroids, in Johnson Valley California. The drunken free-for-all is going off this weekend, starting today Friday, February 3, this afternoon LIVE ! ONLINE, HERE.
