"SCORE INTERNATIONAL OFF-ROAD RACING PUBLIC STATEMENT

Ensenada, Baja California, Friday, June 6, 2025.

José Abelardo Grijalva Carranza, in my capacity as Director of Score International, through this letter inform that, as a result of the accident that occurred in Ejido Eréndira in this city on Monday, June 2, 2025, in which unfortunately the citizen Felipe Arechiga Ríos passed away, this institution has served as a conciliator between the victim’s family and the racing team known as “Norsemen Racing Team,” particularly Mr. Rolf Helland, and in which both parties have reached a preliminary agreement for damage reparations. The aforementioned racing team committed to fulfilling the agreement reached no later than Wednesday, June 11, 2025. Nothing further for the moment, we hope for prompt resignation [Note: likely meant “resignation” as a mistranslation of “acceptance” or “peace”] for the family of Felipe Arechiga Ríos. May he rest in peace.

Respectfully, (Signature) JOSÉ ABELARDO GRIJALVA CARRANZA LEGAL REPRESENTATIVE OF SCORE INTERNATIONAL, S. DE R.L. DE C.V. Blvd. Lázaro Cárdenas 1392-8 Zona Centro, Ensenada, Baja California, México C.P. 22830"

Local citizen, Felipe Aréchiga Ríos died, when an American score racer, driving a million dollar 'score certified trophy truck', with BFGoodrich Tires, struck and killed him, while he was driving home from work!

A driver lost his life in a tragic accident in Ejido Eréndira, a district of San Vicente, Ensenada, when he was struck by a trophy truck traveling along the Score Baja 500 route just days before the race. The victim was identified as Felipe Aréchiga Ríos, 38, and according to the Public Security report at the police station, it was around 3:54 p.m. on Monday, June 2, when they reported that a vehicle had rolled over on 16 de Septiembre Street. Upon arriving at the scene, Eréndira Police officers found two vehicles in the creek: a black and white trophy truck bearing the Norsemen team number 37, and a gray Toyota Scion with ANAPROMEX license plates. According to preliminary reports, both the driver of the racing vehicle and his passenger were transported by helicopter to an as yet undisclosed destination.

From a recent score press release, "Race teams are asked to be patient, as it may take longer to travel through areas such as San Vicente and San Quintín, where the SCORE Baja 500 course runs. While conditions may stabilize in the coming days, racers are advised to allow extra travel time along the highway".

Meanwhile, witnesses at the scene reported that the Toyota driver was taken by family members in a private vehicle. Hours later, authorities reported that the body of a man with a deep head wound and a serious injury to his left elbow was found at the San Vicente Health Center. He was confirmed to be Felipe Aréchiga Ríos. The Traffic Department's forensic report determined that the trophy truck was responsible for the accident. The State Attorney General's Office (FGE) has taken over the case and is conducting the corresponding investigations to clarify the facts and determine liability.

A Baja Racing News reader told us, "Look at this post, Roberto Martinez claims to be a relative of Felipe. I think google or Facebook can translate for you, but long story short this person claims they will “boycott” the race if SCORE doesn’t help them in making Rolf and/or Rick come back and take responsibility. This person calls them out both, wasn’t hard to find out who the drivers were since the truck itself has both their names on it. This person also claims that Felipe WAS in fact alive after the accident, and also wonders if he could have survived had Norsemen provided first aid or quick transport to the hospital. In the comments there’s lots of discussion, both for and against a “boycott” (whatever that means but that’s the word this person used and I guess he means blocking the race course). Some people seem to want to join Roberto in a boycott and others don’t want that to happen. In the comments Roberto claims SCORE hasn’t been very helpful."
