""Alberto
Ayala and Manuel Parra, manned a 1938 Chevrolet, 'The Hawk of the
Mountains'. They set the first record for 6 hours, 6 minutes, 57
seconds.
“The
great accumulated experience, the knowledge of all types of terrain and
the ability to solve mechanical failures that presented themselves to
us in the difficult transpeninsular race event with its more than 3,000
kilometers of round trip, which for years we covered in a work plan with
my compadre Manuel Parra and a server from Tijuana - Ensenada La Paz,
were the strategic elements that we used to conquer with great advantage
the maximum prize that was offered in the First Car Race the
Terrisureña race event! The race started on March 11 and ended the
following day in 1955 aboard a seasoned 17th El Halcón de la Sierra
vehicle, 1938 Chevrolet brand six-cylinder with standard transmission".
The co-pilot Alberto Ayala said in a privileged interview for the Baja Racing Hall of Fame, the now retired aviator pilot captain, affectionately known as 'Pato' Ayala, with his more than 80 years of age, on the 64th anniversary of the first car race in Southern Baja, talks with great emotion and nostalgia, “I am the last survivor of those racers of the unforgettable great race in which vehicles of all makes and cylinder sizes participated, but limited until 1938".
"Most
of them were already ahead of the afterlife; maybe a colleague is out
there; However, many of the cars still work perfectly, it is incredible
that time does not pass over them", he said.
Pato is hereby Inducted into the
Baja Racing Hall Of Fame, Posthumously.
