UPDATED! Los Tres Gusanos Plays Vegas at Sammy's Residency in November launching Baja 1000 events in Vegas

UPDATE:

Wednesday, November 3, MGM OUT OF MIRAGE-VEGAS!

Casino giant MGM Resorts International said Wednesday it's looking to sell the operations of The Mirage hotel on the Las Vegas Strip, but no buyer was identified.

In a letter released along with quarterly earnings, CEO Bill Hornbuckle said the process was in early stages. Hornbuckle said the approximately 3,000-room resort would be “the crown jewel in another operator’s portfolio”.

The Mirage was the first major hotel built on the Strip by former casino mogul Steve Wynn. It opened in November 1989 with its iconic volcano fountain and Polynesian theme.  The Las Vegas Review-Journal reports the underlying Mirage real estate is owned by MGM Growth Properties, which is being bought by New York-based Vici Properties in a $17.2 billion deal expected to close in 2022.

MGM Resorts also announced in previous months, in September, it was buying the operations of The Cosmopolitan of Las Vegas for $1.6 billion from the New York private equity firm Blackstone.

MGM Resorts said in July it would buy out its partner in the CityCenter development for $2.1 billion, take full control of The Aria and Vdara resorts, and lease the property to the Blackstone Group for nearly $3.9 billion.  Tom Reeg, CEO of Caesars Entertainment Inc., said this week his company plans to sell one of its Las Vegas Strip properties in early 2022. He did not specify which one.

From June 30, 2021:

Celebrity Host Sammy Hagar Announced today from Las Vegas Nevada, Baja Racing News LIVE! is Delivering the LIVE MINT 400 2021

In addition to his serving as host for the Baja Racing News LIVE! MINT 400, Sammy also announced his annual Birthday Bash will be celebrated at the Baja Racing Club, October 7, 8 & 9th, 2021, to Kick-Off pre-running for the KING OF BAJA 1000 2021.

Sammy Hagar always tries to bring a little of his Baja Flavors on the road. But with his upcoming residency at The STRAT Las Vegas Theatre, he's putting focus on building an experience that replicates the spirit of his annual Birthday Bash performances at his drinking establishment in Cabo San Lucas, Mexico.

His residency at The STRAT Las Vegas Theatre sold out in less than two hours. Sammy Hagar and Friends will include his longtime bandmates Michael Anthony on bass, Vic Johnson on guitar and for the first two performances, drummer Jason Bonham.

Sammy Hagars annual Birthday Bash will be celebrated at the Baja Racing Club, October 7, 8-9th, 2021, to Kick-Off pre-running for the KING OF BAJA 1000 2021.

He told the Las Vegas Review-Journal earlier this year that "the Circle has the best set list in the world, and the Wabos play a lot more of my old, deeper tracks, and my old vintage catalog from the rocker era, from the ’70s, ’80s, it’s a mosh-up.” So fans can expect songs by Van Halen, Montrose and other Hagar-related tracks from his catalog when he hits Las Vegas in October.

Sammy Remembers Old Vegas

Going to Las Vegas in the old days, the people that played there were going into retirement. Like, I remember, before the [Rolling] Stones finally played in Las Vegas, it was like, “Wow, you don’t play Las Vegas. It’s not cool to play Las Vegas”. You’d play an arena, but you don’t play a casino. The Stones did it - they played [the Joint] at the Hard Rock, I believe - the original Hard Rock, that little tiny room. It blew everybody’s mind. It was like, all of us musicians are going, “I guess it’s okay to play Vegas now!”

Because they used to offer so much money. More money than you’d make anywhere else. I went and saw Huey Lewis do it one time, and I said, “Huey, man, what are you doing in Vegas, doing a residency?” He’s going, “Man, they’re paying the fuck out of me!” I thought, “Yeah, man, but you’re ruining your image!” I guess all of that’s changed, because for me it has! [Laughs] Here I am doing it, and it seems like everybody’s doing it. It’s changed so much. It’s turned into, like, some of the best restaurants in the world are in Las Vegas. Certainly some of the best talent you could see, night after night. You can walk in on a Monday night in Las Vegas and see five really great bands or artists playing in town. All of the greatest shows.

Baja Racing Club has a new home

The size of the venue, it’s only 800 people. It’s like the Cabo Wabo. For me, that’s when we’re packed [at] the my place [for] the Birthday Bash - we squeeze about 800 people in there. We probably won’t be as packed in Vegas, because they won’t let you make a sardine can out of the place, I’m sure! But it’s going to be packed at 800. I wish it was about 1,500 or 2,000.

Because it’s just a shame - we just keep putting shows on sale and they just go, bam! bam! Sold Out! The idea is to continue this next year, like a month on and a month off. Go out on tour a little bit, come back and do a month. That’s the plan. The room is booked through the end of the year unless a show gets canceled here or there, and then we’d come in and do it again. I’ll do as many as I can.

The STRAT Theatre is being Renamed and Remade

"We're renaming the theatre, you know to the Baja Racing Club! It's not done yet, so we can't officially say anything, yet!" You’re going to throw a party, you know? The food in the restaurants on the nights we play are going to be catered towards Cabo food - the finest seafood and carne asada! The drinks are from my brands and a new one. There will be my Beach Bar Rum drinks, there will be the [ready-to-drink cocktails], there will be Santo Tequila, margarita shots.

Our partner with the Baja Racing Club is launching "Cabo Safari Mezcal" during the CABO 1000 in October.

Inside the venue and all around the whole thing, we’re painting. We’re experimenting now with a type of paint that you can’t see. It’s just clear. We’re doing all of these great murals that look just like the Official CABO 500 racing joint. The old Cabo Wabo Cantina, remember the one across the the street from Mermaids? We first had the race awards ceremony there in 2006.

Our Cabo manager coordinated all of the MTV promotions for the launch of Sammy's club back in the day. He still proudly wears his silk jacket from the MTV production in Mexico.

One of our friends, Jorge ViaƱa, who was born in La Paz, Bolivia, had 'lifted' our promo line for use in his new job as bar manager of the Cabo Wabo Cantina (est. 1990) for Sammy. They used, "Cabo Wabo, Where Land Ends, the Party Begins".

The tag line the Hacienda had used for years, way before Sammy got into town and spent a fortune on, was "Hacienda, Where Land Ends, The FUN Begins!"

The Cabo partner chimes in, "That tag line was owned by my partner, Mathew 'Matt' Parr of the Hacienda. We talked to Sammy about it, so he cut us in on his Wabo deal, to make good".

Wait til' we tell the tale of the Cabo Wabo Tequila delivery to the San Felipe 250, back in the day! Stay tuned here, we'll link it later>>>

Just like the old hotels in Cabo, we’re going to wrap the inside of the place with a big lighthouse onstage, like you’re in old Mexico.

When the lights go down, they hit ‘em with the day-glow ultraviolet, and the place is going to turn psychedelic. I mean, I really want to blow peoples’ minds, but we’re limited to how far we can go. The professional club guys are taking a design cue from their old haunts in Mexico, like the inside the Mermaids joint across the street!

Baja Racing Club moves into The STRAT

But my friends at the Baja Racing Club are all over it. They’ve been there, they took all of the measurements and we’ve got murals and we’re experimenting with the paint now to make sure it doesn’t look too tacky when the lights are on. We’re going to put it up and take it down when we’re done every weekend.
