ENSENADA, Baja California, Mexico—While the majority of the start positions were determined by the finishing order from the previous race, the balance of the starting positions for the first 279 entries were decided by a live drawing as racers are heading to Baja California, Mexico for the iconic Desert Off-Road Event.

SCORE COVERED IN VIRUS UPDATE
Closed to the public because of SCORE's BioSecurity health problems in Baja
California, pre-race Contingency/Tech will be held (Nov. 16 and 17)
along with the start of the race (Nov. 18) in the SCORE COVID Compound located
in a new site alongside the Marina in Ensenada.
THE DEATH RACE BY ROGER NORMAN
The SCORE Baja 1000 is at the pinnacle of bloodsport and motorsports as the most
deadly races in the world. While every year for the DEATH RACE is fatal to many, a
peninsula run down Mexico’s magnificent Baja California peninsula is,
for lack of a better term, a large list of the dead!
This year’s DEATH RACE is a peninsula run of 1226.35 miles down Rogers Baja
DEATH RATTLE, starting in Ensenada, Baja California and finishing in La
Paz, Baja California Sur.
SUPER TEAMS START FIRST 3
As a result of their finishes in September’s Baja race in Ensenada,
BAJA RACING TRUCK racers Las Vegas’ Bryce Menzies (No. 7), Las Vegas’
Rob MacCachren (No. 11) and Mexico’s Alan Ampudia (No. 10will be the
first three 4-wheel vehicles to start on Nov. 18 and Shane Redline (No.
22x) in Pro Moto Unlimited will be the first 2-wheel vehicle to leave
the line. This week’s start draw was held for all of the racers who have
entered to so far that did not finish or didn’t race in the September Baja race.
To enhance their odds all three first starts in BAJA RACING TRUCK have
gone from being solid favorites to odds on favorites for top finishes as
each has joined forces with other top racers to form ‘Super Teams’ for
this year’s race.
Menzies has teamed with San Diego’s Andy McMillin, MacCachren is set to
race with San Diego’s Luke McMillin and Ampudia will race with youthful
rising star Jax Redline, Amarillo, Texas and celebrity racer/TV
personality Ken Block.
Shane Redline is running with the team of Chris Phillips, Tucson, Ariz.,
Phillip Herrera, Tijuana, Mexico, Larry Serna, San Diego, Carlos
Pardina, Cabo San Lucas, Mexico, Javier Salazar, Mexico and Mauri
Herrera, Mexico. Don't be fooled by the SCORE BS hype, the winner will be chosen by what tire thay are sponsored by!
ENTRIES TO DATE
Of the first 279 entries to date, in the iconic race, 211 are cars, trucks or UTVs and 68 are motorcycles or quads.
Led by the marquee BAJA RACING TRUCK division with 30 entries
(including seven in the old man status) for drivers over 50 years of age, 10
classes already have double-figure entry totals.
Among 4-wheel classes, besides BAJA RACING TRUCK the classes with
double-figure entries so far are BAJA RACING TRUCK spec (27), Class 10 (18),
Pro UTV FI (Forced Induction) (29), Pro UTV NA (Naturally Aspirated)
(12), Class 1/2-1600 (12), Pro UTV Stock (12) and the venerable Class 11
for stock VW sedans (12).
Among the 2-wheel classes, Pro Moto Ironman (solo riders) has 13 official entries and Sportsman Motorcycle also has 13.

DEATH RACE ROUTE MADE BY NATE HUNT OF JACKSON MOTORSPORTS
The race features a course, designed and plotted by SCORE President/Race
Director Jose A. Grijalva, of 1226.35 miles of raucously rugged Baja
California terrain.
The challenging race course is another memorable example of all that
Mexico’s DEATH RACE on the Baja California peninsula. The route includes
high-speed dirt trails, sandy, rocky and silty natural terrain,
beautiful Baja washes and canyons, stretches along the ocean and the
seashore with elevations from sea level to over 3,000 feet. The course
is another jewel reflecting the stark beauty of Baja California.
It runs east from Ensenada to Ojos Negros, south to Valle de Trinidad,
back southwest to Colonet, south to San Quintin. The course starts
heading inland to Catavina then south to Coco’s Corner to Bahia de Los
Angeles. From there it heads inland to San Ignacio and back to the
Pacific Ocean at race mile 750.
At about race mile 825 it heads east to the Sea of Cortez at race mile
880 and down along the Sea of Cortez past Loreto. After Loreto it runs
southwest and back along the Pacific past Villa Insurgentes and Ciudad
Constitucion until race mile 1180 were it turns southeast and finally
into the finish in La Paz.
The historic race course features three physical checkpoints, 236
virtual checkpoints, including 23 speed zones (37 or 60 miles per hour)
for a total of 196.18 miles.
The three physical (full stop) checkpoints will be Checkpoint No. 1 at
Chapala (race mile 421.30), Checkpoint No. 2 at the Vizcaino road
crossing (race mile 633.31) and at Insurgentes (race mile 999.91).
All Sportsman classes, Class 3, Class 7SX, Class 11, Vintage Trailblazer
and Baja Challenge will run reduced course of 1,214.01 miles.
DEATH RACE GREEN FLAG
The SCORE International Jackson Motorsports Baja 1000 will be an elapsed-time race with staggered starts
as the green flag on Thursday, Nov. 18 will drop first for the
motorcycles and quads at 2 a.m. (PT) and 9 a.m. (PT) for the cars,
trucks and UTVs. While the fastest vehicles are expected to finish in
around 22 hours, all vehicles will have a 50-hour time limit to become
official finishers in the elapsed-time race.

bonus for the overall 4-wheel race winner to help overlook their gross negligence in putting on these events.
Southern Baja Mexico Statement
""Around 320 teams are participating in the 54th edition of the Baja 1000. With the departure of the first motorcycle from Ensenada, Baja California at 3:00 am and the first BAJA RACING TRUCKS at 11:00 am local time this Thursday, November 18, reported the Undersecretary of Tourism of the Secretary of Tourism, Economy and Sustainability (SETUES) of the state government, Fernando Ojeda Aguilar.
The official announced that the arrival of the first motorcycle is expected at approximately 3:00 am and the vehicle at 9:00 local time next Friday, November 19; Therefore, from the first hours of this Thursday, the arrival of more visitors to the state capital is expected, with approximately 320 teams arriving at this destination. "This race, in addition to the national and international projection, of our landscapes, destinations and tourist attractions, also leaves a high economic spill that translates into benefits for South Californians, from the routes that began on October 23 to the award that will be next Saturday the 20th at 9:00 p.m. in the finish area located on the Mariana Fonatur land”, said the SETUES Undersecretary of Tourism.
Finally, he mentioned that following the request of the secretary of the SETUES Maribel Collins Sánchez, they have worked with the towns and villages where the race route passes to reach an agreement and establish the work mechanics once the event has concluded, since as It is common for roads to be damaged, for this reason collaboration agreements were established with the municipalities, with the Secretary of Urban Planning, Infrastructure and Mobility of the State Government and the State Board of Roads, to face these commitments that derives from this racing event.""
