SCORE Communications Fails Again!

HEADLINE LEAD STORY IN THIS BAJA 1000 2021 CLICK HERE!

This is merely another F-Up of SCORE International and Jackson Motorsports/MICHELIN, CLICK HERE for the continuing storyline.

"On top of our lapses in coverage and dangerous flying environments, we have recently lost the assistance in keeping the Mexican airports (normally closed after dark) open 24 hours for fueling."

SCORE Continues Refusing to pay for Safety!

"Important Weatherman Update For The Baja 1000!!

The PCI Race Radios Weatherman Relay offers great VHF radio coverage of the Northern part of the Baja 1000. Perched atop San Pedro Matir at 10,000’, this relay point usually loses range with the race course just below Cocos Corner. At past peninsula runs, SCORE and PCI have worked together to fly an airplane for radio relay coverage at 25,000’ in slow circles for almost 40 hours. The upside was we had VHF coverage of most of the peninsula, the downsides were that we had to fuel every 6 hours leaving multiple two-hour lapses in coverage and it was high risk for the crew to fly hundreds of miles without lighted airports.

On top of our lapses in coverage and dangerous flying environments, we have recently lost the assistance in keeping the Mexican airports (normally closed after dark) open 24 hours for fueling.

With these factors and the increased use of satellite two-way radios by race teams, PCI and SCORE have decided that airplane coverage is a poor choice in comparison to satellite communications. If you are attending the Baja 1000, I am asking you to carry Sat Phone capable of calling or texting PCI Weatherman Relay. I ask that every Race car and every chase truck carry a Sat phone capable of dialing the PCI Weatherman at 1-562-279-0700. Don’t try to figure out how to use it during an emergency, print a sticker with the phone #, attach it to the phone and test a text or phone call before you leave home. Please text for anything having to do with status or non emergencies. Please only call in an emergency. We will have support available in English and Spanish. If you have cell service, you can call us or text us. If you have cell service, you can also monitor the Weatherman broadcast that will be live on our website. If you have a PCI Satcomm G2/MSAT, make sure your devices are set up to dial/telephone call us.

Satellite Phone Store has helped PCI create the Iridium Baja 1000 Weatherman Talk Group on the Iridium Satellite PTT network. Anyone with Iridium PTT or an Icom Sat device can add this medium talk group to their account for the Baja 1000 (11/19-11/30) for only $125. To get added to that talk group, contact Satellite Phone Store. Icom Sat 100 Radios are not capable of calling a land line so I recommend adding the Weatherman public talk group or bringing an additional Sat Phone in the car/on the bike. PCI Race Radios offers the Satcomm Satellite Two-Way Radio and the Icom Sat 100. The Baja 1000 isn’t for the faint of heart. It’s just as treacherous on the highway as it in the race car and you are hours and possibly days away from help.

[Edit]

For everyone else there is support from amazing crews like Baja Pits and Mag 7. In dire emergencies if your sat phone device is not able to reach me, contact BFG Relay on 151.715 and they will relay to me. BFG Relay will be available for any and all teams for emergency call ins. Please do not call in and tie up the airways for vehicles location updates or times. This year will look a little different with a team from PCI stateside to triage calls and working with SCORE ops in Ensenada and La Paz via VOIP and Satellite communications.

Please be prepared and understand you will not have Weatherman VHF communications South of Cocos Corner.

Most teams will still monitor Weatherman, so if you didn’t heed my above advice, Weatherman frequency is still a good place to call for help in hopes someone on the frequency has satellite communications.

[BFG Relay was also mentioned]

Weatherman Relay Etiquette applies to VHF and Satellite communications, please make sure your entire team reads this page before using a radio or sat phone to contact us. I wish you all a safe and fun Baja 1000 and I hope I don’t hear from you during the race."

HERE IS THE ADVISORY FROM WEATHERMAN CHANNEL

""How to reach Weatherman at the 2021 SCORE Baja 1000 peninsula run

A peninsula run Baja 1000 isn’t for race teams with a one man pit crew. If you don’t have experienced support, get involved with a pit crew that can support you or stay home. It’s blunt, but I want all of you to get to La Paz safely.   One of our biggest helpers in Baja is the BFG Radio Relay and BFG Pit support crew. If you are short on help, BFG is your answer for pits and fuel. Their pit and radio support is top notch. I run BFG tires on my vehicles and they are the winningest tire in the history of Baja. For everyone else there is support from amazing crews like Baja Pits and Mag 7.

UPDATED:

FIRST REPORTS FROM THE BORDER CROSSING OPENINGS, The most common report...NO-ONE IS CHECKING VACCINATION DOCS!

November 8, 2021, The Date.

**Otay Mesa and San Ysidro OPEN 24 Hours (San Diego Region).

-FINAL NOTICE! Nov. 5

"U.S. Customs and Border Protection officials are asking for preparedness and patience as travelers are able to take advantage of the first stage of re-opening following pandemic travel restrictions. Beginning in March 2020, to prevent the further spread of COVID-19, travel across the land border into the U.S. has been restricted to essential travel only.  While U.S. citizens and legal permanent residents of the U.S. were able to cross the border, travel by visa holders from other nations was not permitted for non-essential reasons, such as tourism or family visits.  On November 8, fully vaccinated foreign nationals with appropriate documents for entry will be permitted to cross into the U.S. from Mexico at land border crossings for non-essential reasons again. These travelers are required to be prepared to attest to vaccination status and to present proof of vaccination to a CBP officer upon request. By January, foreign nationals traveling across the land border for both essential and non-essential reasons will be required to be fully vaccinated.   This includes individuals who have previously been crossing the border for essential travel, such as work or medical appointments.  U.S. citizens and legal permanent residents of the U.S. will not be required to provide proof of vaccination when crossing into the U.S. The requirements also do not apply to those ages 17 and under. Information about what is acceptable as proof of vaccination, including which vaccines are permissible, is available on the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention website: Requirement for Proof of COVID-19 Vaccination for Air Passengers | CDC.  Please note that to be considered fully vaccinated, 14 days must have passed since your final shot for your vaccine. “Even before November 8, our traffic volumes at California ports of entry have risen to almost the same levels they were pre-pandemic", said Pete Flores, Director of Field Operations for the San Diego Field Office.  “While we have pulled officers wherever possible from other duties and re-assigned them to processing in our primary and secondary inspection areas, we do predict that we will reach a limit to what we at CBP are able to do to help make crossings more efficient, especially during the first weeks after these changes.  We are predicting longer wait times, and are asking for travelers to help us speed the process as much as possible.” For the ports of entry along the California/Mexico border, CBP officials are suggesting the following steps that travelers can take to try and help speed processing for entry into the U.S.: If you are a visa holder traveling for non-essential reasons, you can verbally attest or declare to the officer that you have been vaccinated, without waiting for the officer to ask the question.  Have your proof of vaccination ready, in case the officer asks to see it.  (Not every individual will be asked to show their proof at every crossing, but they are required to have their proof of vaccination with them in case they are asked to provide it to the CBP officer as a part of their inspection for entry into the U.S.) If you are traveling for non-essential reasons, travel at off-peak times.  At local ports of entry, our peak times with the highest traffic volumes are Sundays, beginning at about 2 p.m. and continuing until about midnight.  Each weekday, peak volume times are in the mornings from about 4 a.m. until about 9 a.m.  To help alleviate bottlenecks, CBP is recommending that those who can, decide when to cross choose off-peak hours for their travel times. For travelers in need of an I-94 permit or "permiso", use the CBP One mobile app to apply and pay in advance of your crossing, up to seven days before you cross. Travelers can use the app on their phone to complete the application, receive conditional approval, and pay the fee for the permit.  They can then complete the final step with the officer in the primary booth during their inspection for entry to the U.S.  Using the app significantly improves the individual traveler’s crossing experience, as they do not need to go to secondary inspection for completion and can instead continue on their way.  And using the app helps save time for everyone at the border crossing.   For travelers who do not apply electronically, they should expect long wait times for processing. Use the Correct Lane Traffic at our local ports of entry is segmented into three different lanes.  The SENTRI lanes are only for those traveling in a vehicle with all of the occupants registered in the low-risk Trusted Traveler program; the vehicle itself must also be registered with SENTRI.  The Ready lanes are only for those who have a document equipped to use the Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) technology available to help speed processing into the U.S.   For U.S. citizens, that’s a passport card, rather than the blue passport book.  It also includes Legal Permanent Resident Cards and the Border Crossing Cards held by local B1/B2 visa holders.  All others must have their correct documentation ready to show that they have the legal status to enter the U.S., and use the general traffic lanes.  “With the lifting of travel restrictions, we are expecting an increase in travelers.  Everybody should expect longer wait times. That’s the reality of what we’re going to see,” said Flores.  “At San Ysidro alone, we process about 50,000 cars daily into the U.S. For every traveler that can help save a few seconds by being prepared in advance, those seconds add up into real time savings for all travelers at our local border crossings.” To prepare for the anticipated increase in traffic volume, CBP recently announced changes back to standard hours of operation at the California/Mexico border crossings.  San Ysidro, Otay Mesa, and Calexico West will continue operations 24 hours a day, with all pedestrian processing at the San Ysidro port of entry taking place at he Pedestrian East Facility.   On November 7, hours at the Andrade and Tecate ports of entry will return to 6 a.m. until 10 p.m. daily.  At the Calexico East port of entry, hours will return to 6 a.m. until 10 p.m. daily on November 8."

-The word is getting out! Now, southern california media is getting ahold of the cold hard truth...mass migration about to begin...do you think anyone who crosses the USA border, Nov. 8, after being told NO NO NO for over a year is going to go back to Mexico...

Here's the press blabbing>>>"BORDER WAIT TIMES: Without warning, and seemingly overnight, border waits can grow to four or five hours. The concern is that on Nov. 8, when essential travel restrictions are lifted, the waits will grow with more people getting in line to get to U.S.."

Do YOU think any of the three lettered agencies are READY FOR THIS?!!!

The agencies don't even have firm policies on what is required...what documents...what requirements...

-The weekend of Nov. 5, 6, 7, the last low count flow weekend.

DOCUMENTATION REQUIREMENTS WILL BE SCREWY

October 11 Notice: ""COVID Restrictions on entry to the USA from Mexico are changing. "Federal border officials said both (Mexico and Canada) 'new' policies would come into effect in early November. They did not specify a specific date.(See top of story, the Date has been UPDATED)"""

**Mexicans- Legal Resident Alien and Commuter Card Holders have until January to be Fully Vaccinated to Continue Crossing the Border!

-Unless some clarification is issued by DHS, legal resident alien card holders, known as green card holders and any other foreigner (this includes Mexican nationals) with a valid work visa that have been crossing the border without a problem, WILL NOT be able to do so as of January 2022 unless they are fully vaccinated

This includes all foreigners crossing for essential and non essential functions.

For example, Mexican truck drivers will have to be fully vaccinated as of January to continue crossing into the USA.

Individuals are considered fully vaccinated: Two (2) weeks after their second dose in a two (2) dose vaccine series.

Alternately, 2 weeks after a single-dose vaccine, such as Johnson & Johnson’s - Janssen vaccine.

Underlined, Mexican nationals or any other visitor to the USA, crossing a border from Mexico, will need to have their second dose vaccine (or one shot J&J) by December 17, 2021 to cross into the USA, on January 1, 2022.

Story 3>>>

Reportedly, Northern Ranchers Protest Race Course!

Ensenada, BC.

Numerous municipal reports of northern ranchers protesting the race course on their property, without their consent and payment!

These reports are coming from the council offices who represent the land owners. So many reports have been filed, that a common legal action is now taking place at the Mexicali courthouse, to enforce previous years agreements that have never been fulfilled by the racing organization of SCORE International.

One member has been quoted in the local press as saying this is the year the ranchers, the ejido leaders and the environmental groups of northern Baja California have teamed to address over fifty years of legal violations of land holdings throughout the state.

The reason SCORE can't go farther north with their race courses any longer is because the indian reservations and ejidos went to Mexico City and filed legal papers on the ejido and reservation directorates, forcing the violations of land law against the state, the Ensenada and Mexicali municipalities and the federal government in Mexico City.

Reportedly, Roger Norman has been making payoffs to Ensenada officials since he arrived in town. So, it's an easy guess, the locals have figured out that Roger has tons and tons and tons of cash to spread over the people of Ensenada!

If the racing organization hasn't fulfilled the past commitments and failed to reach recent accommodations, Mexico City will end up with its nose in the mierda.

This race always ends up in land disputes, we'll keep reporting!

"After the decade of decadence with death and destruction", Roger is Officially-Bent-Over!

Good News! Mexican Federal Government Announces SCORE compliance with natural area protection mandates

Ensenada, BC., October 14, 2021.

"Profepa announced today Roger Norman and the racing association SCORE International, has agreed to finally obey Mexico City mandates to "not devastate the natural environment", in its next race, the Baja 1000 2021.

The representative of the federal agency, PROFEPA, said, "after a decade of decadence of death and destruction, Profepa has written commitments from Roger Norman, that he will not kill the natural environment with wanton disregard".

They also said Roger paid $$$,$$$ in FINES!

Put simply the official said, "this years race course stays on many miles of Mexican Federal Route 1, rather than through federally, heavily protected areas and landscapes".

Roger has been forced, he's been bent-over, placing his off-road race, now running on asphalt for hundreds of miles. The 2021 Baja 1000 is now, officially considered a 'road-race'. Not an "off-road event".

In past years, SCORE International has been fined hundreds of thousands of dollars for numerous violations of state, federal and UNESCO laws.

Roger ran his death circus through Baja California's highly protected areas, killing thousands.

"The United Nations Environment Directorate came down on the State of Baja California like a ton of bricks", said the official, putting the hammer on Rogers head.

The UNESCO Biosphere of the central desert of Baja is globally protected for world-wide valued lifeforms.

"We will have inspectors throughout the central desert of Baja California, (during the pre-runs and racing events) ensuring compliance with all agreements this year", said the Profepa regulator."

Pre-Running!

Pre-Running UPDATES

THE FIRST AND THE MOST IMPORTANT!!! Drive during the day the roads are very well maintained and very well marked…. But at night it is very dangerous because of the animals that are crossing the roads across Baja Norte and southern Baja, it's impossible to see them until very late.

THE SECOND…. If you are going from California or Tijuana or Tecate, it is better to take the highway to San Felipe and along the Sae of Cortez side (Eastern side)… straighter and far faster and easier to handle than driving through Ensenada on the Pacific coast (Western side)… many ups and downs and too many curves, some very tight…. Especially if you are trailering…."

*First day of 'Allowed' Pre-Running is scheduled by SCORE International, (as a promise to the land owners and governement of BC MX) as Saturday October 23rd. But, let's not kid ourselves, actual pre-running has been goin' on for months. As long as Jose G (race director for SCORE), keeps running proposed race maps through the government here in Ensenada, the race course is not a secret.

And the entire course was announced over the weekend here on the WWW!

Safari Club has been running the course both in Baja South and Baja Norte for four months. As condition reports come in, we'll report HERE>>>

Baja South>>>

So far, after the hurricane season, course conditions are excellent. But, this will not last. We suggest hitting the south part of the course first, to get it out of the way and catch it at it's best condition.

Baja Norte>>>

Mangled and over-run. What else is new? The northern part of the course to San Quintin has been run for the last five years in various gringo races. South of San Quintin the course is in good shape, with the notable logistical issues that we'll get to in our next update.

So, in actuality, the big teams have known the course for about two months and now everyone knows the course. And just because SCORE says its 'not right' to pre-run the course until the 23rd, well, nobody cares what SCORE wants or says.

It's officially PRE-RUNNING TIME in Baja California Mexico!

CLICK HERE FOR THE Special Presentation, 'The Road To The Riviera'. A good primer for the first timer to Baja Mexico.

Pre-Running Notes Made Public

More course issues in the Insider File...

SiltBeds, Silt Beds, Silt-Beds

Biggest silt beds were north of the Bahia Tortuga highway. "I went through this section last February and there were lots of sand whoops. Packed. The report continues...

Even after the winter rains, there were still a few silt beds that were hard packed. I’m sure once we start pre-running and the race driving, the whoops and silt beds will be enormous."

At Vizcaino (RM 650-700), there are nothing but major silt beds. Our map attests to these details.

The Reports>>>

Regarding the silt beds of Central Baja, First report from racer, "Worst 80 miles in Baja of my life.  I think I was in 2nd gear for 4 hours.  3ft sharp silt whoops short-spaced, can't get on top of them.  Fog so thick water was sheeting off the windshield frame like a waterfall.  Couple short but steep hill climbs toward the end. Some stuck trucks. Got around them on 3rd try.  Visor open the whole time - fog and wet silt wrecked it, visor was useless. I was plucking small rocks out of my eyeball when I got out at La Purisima. Literally."

The Teams>>>

As the Baja 1000 teams are announced we'll report on them here, on the BAJA Racing CENTER

*Robby Gordon and SPEED Team

Former Nascar Series driver Casey Mears confirmed he's joined forces with Robby Gordon aboard the 'Unicorn' during the 54th edition of the Baja 1000.

Mears, who is not a stranger in the off-road, being the son of the living legend of the sport, Roger Mears, will drive from mile 470 to 650.

Giving Gordon a break in Trophy Truck number 77. It will only be 180 miles for Casey Mears, who two years ago drove a Trophy Truck Geiser on the Baja 1000 and managed to finish the race in 12th place, without a relief at the wheel of the his off-road racing effort.

*Ken Block with TT10 (Ampudia/Redline)

Report from one of the team co-drivers, "We've been informed Jax Redline and I will do the first 500 miles.

Then Ken Block will do RM 500 to RM 840. Then Alan Ampudia will bring it home.  I pre-ran RM 500 to RM 705 today, so I can make notes for Ken Block.

RM 500 to RM 630 is super fast. RM 630 to RM 660 is all good then sandy woops for 10 to 15 miles. No silt yet (as pre-running progresses, all of the solid driving sections that are known for turning into silt change after all of the heavy rigs, with horsepower and big tires plow up the solid soils).

Rocky getting into RM 700 but not bad doing it all again tomorrow".

*Who does Roger/BFGoodrich want to win the race?

The race is between Rob and Larry in Rogers eyes. Both are BFG teams, which he will give the trophy to and only 2 points separate Rob Mac and Larry R. Going to be a tactical race for sure.

Luke McMillin is not the driver of record with Rob, so Larry has a target on his back, with everyone knowing Roger/BFG is trying to give the championship away to Larry's sponsor. C'mon, word's all over the peninsula!

We even know about it here in La Paz!

*Terribles Team Report:

The World Famous Terribles Herbst of Las Vegas Nevada, USA, has put together a luxury team for the November classic. The 54th edition will have three efforts with a lot of experience in the BAJA Racing Truck class (aka Trophy Truck).

Tim Herbst, Pat Dean and Troy Herbst, the latter will be returning to the Bajas as an active driver, after being absent to focus on the steps of his son Riley racing with the Nascar Series. Never in their sporting career have the Terribles Herbst been able to win the Baja 1000 within the “Monsters of the Midway”, a feat that has been pending for them since 1996.

Troy Herbst won the overall 1000 miles in 2004 and 2005, although at that time he did it aboard the famous Truggy and having as a partner at the wheel with Larry R. In this racing event, Tim Herbst and Pat Dean have achieved a couple of seventh places, San Felipe 250 and Baja 500, but in the Baja 400 they were outside the top 10, to place 22nd, making them fifth in the ranking.

For this race, the Terrible Herbst will have at least 3 (three) competing vehicles, as Thor Herbst will be at the wheel of the Trophy Truck Spec class.

#16 SCameron Steele Desert Asses Death Merchants

More Loading>>>

Cameron Steele, consistently sucks-off SCORE and BFGoodrich Tires. Lets see, he's had teammates killed and friends of teammates have died at the hands of SCORE and BFGoodrich Tires gross negligence.

He's covered up criminal activities and personally overseen his own death business. Anyone can die being around this team.

Why do think they call THEMSELVES, "Desert Assassins!

*#3 Mark Post, Javiers Restaurant and booze

Ed Herbst will be part of the Riviera Racing team alongside Mark Post and ugh Curt LeDuck. That fat, overweight and very old truck may never cross the finish line.

LeDuck is one of the most likely to die at this event.

*Team Information down South>>>

This Saturday, October 16, the racing monkeys of SCORE are in La Paz, BCS.

Federico Montes, Deputy Director of the technical area of Score International is ready to arrive in La Paz, with the official goal of the upcoming Baja 1000 for November where, this Saturday's event will review helmets, overalls and Hans-type neck protectors will be reviewed to label for the racing event.

In addition, "Fede" Montes will be conducting the inspections of the roll cages for certification and must comply with the safety regulations to participate in the November racing event.

Montes was emphatic in pointing out that the event will be held with a strict schedule from 3:00 to 6:00 PM, at the facilities of Eléctrica y Plomería El Arco, located in Abasolo between Jalisco and Michoacán.
