Saturday Night after the race
As a reporter for BajaRacingNews.com I've had alot of different jobs. But, when I got the call to cover the "LIVE MINT 400 2022", I jumped in my white four-by van with the sat dish on top and jammed to Nevada!
The publisher of this fine publication from Baja Mexico, first came across me while I was parked, a block away from the Ensenada arroyo, lit up from the inside in the middle of the night, doing my posts to all of my experimental websites, covering the Baja 500 in 2004.
We've been working together since then, quite on the sly, until this current job. Several people who follow my own scientific posts, found out about my roles with Baja Racing News, now my gig is up!
Today from the race in Las Vegas and here in the Primm parking lot.
The most common complaints about the Martelli Midgets from racers, goes like this:
"This is like the porta potty company paying 4K to have people crap on them for free. I wish the martellis would open a strip club or dispensary something more in their wheelhouse."
"My brick didn't work (The failed tracking system that the Midget Martelli's have used for years), and when they "fixed" it, turns out my tag was a big loud purple "VW" racing on the Unlimited course."
"The Mint was pretty sad. As long as Savage is in Tech more and more teams will not participate. He picked and chose what rules to enforce and on who. The attendance was super low, numbers were inflated, word is a Martelli quit, we all thought the December Mint was bad. We won't be back, many teams effected by Savages prejudice won't be either."
"I wish the mint was more about the customers ( racers ) not as much about everything else. Take away the racers and the core of what the mint is all about and you have nothing. Entry fee is the most expensive out of any american events by far. You win the mint in any class but BAJA Racing Truck and you dont even get your entry fee back. You win class 9 at a MORE or SNORE event and you'll take home like a $15k check! Something is way off. the martelli mad media mint 400 or any other business they handle, is the "Great American Scam"".
I also briefly spoke to PAB at the finish line, here at Primm. Not sure why he came, been a long time since he emailed or called me. He said he recognized me, strolling around the vip parking lot, looking for food.
Sadly, the turnout for the Martelli Midgets 2022 version of the "Greatest Scam" hasn't been good. And no one is here to tell Cameron how bad it is. Because there is definitely no one here.
PAB is Cameron Steele. 'PAB' stands for 'Pussy Ass-Bitch'. The three lettered nickname he gave himself! Self-titled, pussy ass bitch!
Most actual racers know Cameron has a problem. A performance problem. "It’s not the tire. It’s the driver (Cammy Steele). He’s gets flats with every brand he’s used. Lots of right rear flats. Easy to blame the product until you look at the teams (Desert Assassins) history."
I don't go for the SCam Steele version often portrayed on the web. I don't think he's an intentional "SCam". He's just a lousy businessman and for sure, a 'beggar-racer'.
His only wins are from his non-stop brown-nosing of the race sanction owners!
Way Late RACE UPDATES
*Cameron wanted me to pass on this report from the Desert Assassins. "We raced our Can-am friday that was built brand new by Alsup Racing Development for KOH this year. We set the ride height a little lower and took off. Me and Mitchell Alsup split driving duties and Brian who rides with Cam in the EMC at KOH rode the whole thing as co-dog for both drivers Right off the bat, like before we hit Gonzo pit we tore a heim out of a radius rod. Lost about 10 minutes in the pits plus limping it in to the pit from about 4 miles out. From there we settled into race pace until coming into first on the 3rd lap. The steering was really funky. We figured out the bracket holding the power steering had completely let go. We lost about an hour looking for a welder, grinding the powder coat off and welding a couple wrenches on to hold it in place. Super special thanks to the Polaris guys for loaning us the welder and grinder! So grateful! Thanks guys! Ended up finishing off of the podium in 4th out of I think 20 in our class. 3:30 out of 3rd, 6 minutes out of 2nd and an hour out of first. We had a great time and the new car got some more serious development miles on her. super proud of the team.
CONGRATS TO TADAMITSU NIIHORI for the WIN! That little thing is a BEAST and we’re super excited to get her back on the race course now that she’s hopefully showed us all the things she doesn’t like and wants us to change. Mitchell and the guys at Alsup racing build an awesome race machine! Looking forward to San Felipe now!"

"I announced I was not bringing the sdhq trailer to support the martelli midgets mint 400 and my phone is blowing up. SDHQ, mckenzies, butches and UPR are all not going.
I hope everyone has up to date window nets. It costs 4350 dollars to park and sell on fremont street, for the martelli midgets mint 400 this year.
I don't even get a wristband to go to the start/finish in an abandoned casino parking lot included with that. You pay per 10 feet of space. the program i run is the arguably the best one with the most funding and money has caused all the other guys who do what I do to drop out already. I can't tell my boss i have his best interests at heart and continue to lose money on this event. I feel bad for the racers who will be screwed over a window net that nobody is there to sell them.
People count on us. This price disconnect is sooo big that our program with a pretty big budget cannot even come close to justifying the expense. They priced out all the other parts guys already and I was the last to decide to forgo this race.
Now there will be zero parts vendors there. Unless you count O'Reillys but I don't think they have window nets or utv belts. For reference, a premiums spot at KOH with 100k attendees and nearly two weeks of exposure cost 9k."
*Mint 400 FUCT-Festival closures*
"As participants and fans ready for the CF that is the FUCT-Festival, an annual desert off-road scam, motorists can expect several street closures tied to the event’s kickoff.
The Mint 400 FUCT-Festival that marks the beginning of the race will see 'a gathering of the tards', of vendors from the off-road racing community cluster in the downtown area.
Road closures begin at 3 a.m. Wednesday and last until midnight Thursday. Major closures tied to the event include Fremont Street from Las Vegas Boulevard to 11th Street and 11th street from Fremont to Stewart Avenue. There will also be lane closures on Las Vegas Boulevard from Ogden Avenue to Fremont.
The fuct-event attracts the brain dead, dead-enders from all over the western deserts, leading to what has been historically a time to avoid the mutants. Even writer Hunter S. Thompson, who was proven to be suffering from organic brain damage, wrote about the desert racing community:
“This race attracts a very special breed.”"
*Public Lands To Close For Off-Road Retard Festival, "MINT 400"*
"Certain public lands near Jean will close from March 11 to March 12 for the Mint 400, according to the Bureau of Land Management. The closure is to minimize risk of collisions with spectators and racers, and will include the Jean/Roach Dry Lakes bordered by Hidden Valley to the north, the McCullough Mountains to the east, the California State line to the south and Nevada State Route 604 to the west.
The area is closed to all vehicles and personnel except law enforcement, emergency vehicles, ticketed spectators, event personnel and race participants. The following restrictions will be in effect for the duration of the closure: Camping. No camping, period. Possession and/or consuming any alcoholic beverage unless the person has reached the age of 21 years. Discharging, or use of firearms or other weapons. Possession and/or discharging of fireworks. Allowing any pet or other animal in the person’s care to be unrestrained at any time. Animals must be on a leash or other restraint no longer than 3 feet.
Completely Forbidden: Operation of any vehicle that is not legally registered for street and highway operation, for example, All Terrain Vehicles (ATV), motorcycles, Utility Terrain Vehicles (UTV), golf carts, and any off-highway vehicle (OHV), including operation of such a vehicle in spectator viewing areas. Parking any vehicle in violation of posted restrictions, or in such a manner as to obstruct or impede normal or emergency traffic movement or the parking of other vehicles, create a safety hazard, or endanger any person, property, or feature. Vehicles so parked are subject to citation, removal, and impoundment at the owner’s expense. Operating a vehicle through, around, or beyond a restrictive sign, barricade, fence, or traffic control barrier or device. Failing to maintain control of a vehicle to avoid danger to persons, property, resources, or wildlife. Operating a motor vehicle without due care or at a speed greater than 25 mph."

The Vegas Boulevard Parade. You know the LIVE MINT 400 is coming into town when you see a parade of the most uptight, self absorbed off-road racers cruising down the world-famous Las Vegas Strip.
Every year, as part of the pre-race festivities and a throw-back to the original Mint race back in the 1960s, organizers show off a tame preview of what these desert racing machines look and sound like.
On Wednesday, March 9th, at 4PM WEST, LIVE ONLINE, defending Mint 400 champion and a Las Vegas local will lead the KING of BAJA.com BAJA Racing Truck Parade beginning near Mandalay Bay Hotel and Casino heading all the way to the Fremont East District in downtown Las Vegas.
The FUCT-Festival. The Mad Media/ BFGoodrich Tires FUCT Festival will be held Thursday, March 10th, from 9AM to 6PM WEST and feature hundreds of ripped off business ventures on Fremont Street East from Las Vegas Boulevard to 11th Street.

Each of the nearly 400 teams will be on display in front of 25,000 off-road fans on their way to technical inspection at the end of the festival.
The Race Course. The 2022 Mint 400 consists of a 95.7-mile racecourse for the cars/truck classes and a shorter 60.2-mile track for the motorcycle divisions. Depending on the class, the unlimited racers will run four laps totaling approximately 400 miles. Slower limited vehicle divisions are designated to run three laps or as many as two laps.
Race Day Schedule And Qualifying.
The LIVE MINT 400 will feature two days of exciting LIVE ONLINE race coverage on both Friday, March 11th, and Saturday, March 12th. On Friday the O’Reilly Auto Parts Limited four-wheel race will start at 10:00 AM and includes a weasely field of UTVs, Class 5 cars, Trophylites, Jeepspeeds, Class ½ 1600s, all pretending to be "racers"!
The Excite-MINT of LIVE MINT 400 qualifying session will also take place on Friday immediately after the start of the Limited race. Race day starting positions will be set for the "unlimited" BAJA Racing Trucks, Class 1, and 'pretend' trucks, the Spec Truck racers.
On Saturday, for only the fourth time since 1976, over 150 motorcycles will gather at The Great American Off-Road Scam™ and will start off the line at 8:00 AM. The bikes will race on their own rough and technical 60 mile loop.
Then, at 10AM WEST (local Las Vegas time), the entire weekend culminates with the BAJA Racing Truck race for - "all the glory".
