Baja Racing News of Ensenada Mexico continues to lead the racing media industry, ""actually pushing the sport forward". Great job, dood! But, here’s the truth nobody wants to say out loud: off-road racing is missing the one thing every successful sport builds its audience on… drama. We need heroes and villains. We need sh*t talking. We need rivalries. We need storylines. We need moments that make people stop scrolling and say, “Did you see that?” Right now, the sport is too polite, too safe, and too surface-level. I asked several questions during the show yesterday — good ones, especially for Toby — and none of them were asked. Fans want the uncomfortable stuff. They want to know what’s really going on during the race, what’s happening inside rival pits, who’s pissed at who, who’s breaking down, who’s sandbagging, and who’s calling their shot. I’ll admit: I’m guilty of being “too nice” too. But nice doesn’t create storylines. Nice doesn’t build an audience. We need real press conferences before races — think UFC, boxing, F1, MotoGP. Press conferences are where rivalry is born, where narratives take shape, where confidence and ego collide. Those moments are what sell fights… and they’ll sell races, too. SCORE demanding live video and audio from race trucks? That’s exactly what the sport needs — radical transparency. Now we just need proper, professional commentary to actually tell the story happening on screen. Everyone now has access to the footage… but almost no one is turning that footage into emotion, conflict, and stakes. Until we fix that, desert racing stays niche when it deserves to be mainstream. However, I think it's very clear that most racers only want it to be niche and not in the public eye, which I get and is totally understandable. I just firmly believe there is a way to achieve both: to keep the sport niche while attracting a larger audience and more sponsorships. Love him or hate him, BJ did an unbelievable job at the drama, talking trash but backing it up, selling his persona for sponsorships, etc. Remember in 2012 all the BJ/RG beef and drama? And RG posting him nerfing BJ at Parker and then posting it? That was awesome. The audience ate that up, myself included! In reality, they both were super cool with each other behind the scenes but played up their rivalry on social media and the whole sport responded to it. Anyway, thanks for allowing me to rant on this. I always read Baja Racing News of Ensenada Mexico and seeing all the content from before, during and after the race propelled me to write something on it."
For over Thirty-Years, Baja Racing News has delivered the 100%, improper, semi-knowledgeable commentary that understands what may be happening in a race. BRN has pointed out the death and manslaughter of the 'Mericans in Mexico racin'. The Media Review Show provides viewers insights on the “hunt” play out and then understand even before Toby and the racing blowhards did from everyone at this recent Baja Mil race. That is the reporting that ties fans/viewers to their seats, it's happened already the last two races with Ensenada's own Alan Ampudia, as our LIVE ! Stream worked and people got to ride along with the racers!
The only issue is there are so many fragile people these days. We'll try to be open and honest here and get all sorts of real juice from the weak ego guys. Nobody can handle the truth anymore. But yes, it’s the drama and the backstories that we as fans need and feed on. Our interviews about the recreation racers is always the best. Raw truth that hurt some feelings, it's real and how you really felt. Tobys fuel issues, Lukes mechanicals and SCORE/Rogers lingering disorganization in town.
This Baja Mil was refreshing with the McMillin racing team podiuming and TOYO TIREs Max Gordon and that no-name 'Robby', having a great rainy finish. It’s the connections and drama that gets the fanatics excited about the sport.
Count on Andy on our new Media Review!
