As the 'Best In The Desert' community deals with another death at their desert racing offerings, more death events have forced the racers to deal honestly and publicly with the realities.
David Nehrbass, Chief BITD apologist says:
"BITD has 2 brand new events the next two months so bare with us a little to focus on those events and then we will communicate what plans are in place for the 2018 V2R."
Yeah, next year, just like the last 15 years of hack medical rescues. Expect more racing deaths.
Travis, 'the racing kook', racing "Marketing Agent" said:
"This lack of a dedicated medical chopper is not new to BITD, I had multiple discussions with Casey Folks about it prior to his passing. He almost refused us the permit to fly our medical chopper at the last V2R race and it took the intervention of a few key people to get him to finally see the light, only to then be reinforced when that very chopper saved the life of Tim Morton's son."
"Up until this year, SCORE (Roger Norman) also did not have an airborne medical chopper. They DID have their own dedicated chopper however it was stationed in Ensenada during the entire race. So if there was an accident well down the course it could be a long flight to reach it. This year though, SCORE has agreed to move their chopper down the course and re-position it to be more readily available to respond should it be needed. That is a huge improvement although still not like days when Sal Fish had a medical chopper in air at all times."

Ensenada looks at the Baja racing community and examines the honest costs and benefits of holding events in their municipality. Could this be the beginning of a true accounting of the gringo private company (SCORE)? Is a NEW Mexican owner ready to take over after the 50th BAJA 1000 this November? Stay Tuned!!!
""To remove from the city (Ensenada) the starting point of the races of 'SCORE International', to raise the taxes by corridor and by stand, as well as to tax other concepts and to prevent that Proturismo firm agreements with the foreign company, will be analyzed by the Cabildo of Ensenada. The councilman Cristian Vázquez González, informed that, in addition to the presentation of proposals before the plenary, these topics will also be analyzed in a forum to be held on 27 October.
[Readers Note: Ensenada is the largest municipality in the Republic of Mexico]
The mayor noted that the agreement with the gringo company, Score International, should not be signed by Proturismo (State Tourism), because this paramunicipal compromises the administration in a general way; Next year, it could be the City Council who signed this agreement." It is against any logic, because a paramunicipal (State Tourism Department, for Baja California) should not compromise the centralized body (Ensenada County/City)," he reiterated.
Specifically he referred to dependencies involved as the Public Security addresses; Commerce, Spirits and Public Shows; Works and Public Services, among others. He acknowledged that in the last edition of the Baja 500 there was some progress, because, for the first time and 10 years ago, the red numbers were reduced to just over 20 thousand pesos. He explained that according to Proturismo, they went out of budget (for road grading before and after SCORE racing events), since payments were made from past administrations.

The councilman observed that only for the (grading) of roads are destined about 20 employees for a period of more than two weeks, that is, they are material and human resources that take away the city.

The mayor acknowledged that there have been "threats" from the promoters, to take the race to other municipalities or states. The June BAJA 500 2017 will go over to MONSTER Mikes Sky Rancho! The serialized June course is going to the coast first (ON THE BEACH!), Erendira and then South to Colonet.
The 516 (apprx.) mile, counter-clockwise race course will feature (apprx.) 465 off-road and 49 pavement race miles of Baja Norte, Mexico.

"An airplane belonging to the Mexican Air Force was attacked as it was patrolling in Baja California, reported the Secretary of National Defense in a press release.
The events occurred last March 20 as the airplane intercepted a Cessna with fake registration XB-EAH and XB-EAI, which landed 23 kilometers south of Lázaro Cárdenas, in Ensenada. The military airplane, which overflew the landing area was "the object of an armed attack by an undetermined group of people, and was not damaged. The attackers fled on foot in an unknown direction, said the ministry. In coordination, soldiers seized the airplane which contained black bags with packets of cocaine, weighing 700 pounds. There were also packages of methamphetamine, weighing 350 pounds and there was 90 pounds of heroin and two vehicles."

"Marco Antonio Ochoa, a state preventative police officer was identified as stealing drugs and vehicles with US registrations, threatening the owners with turning them over to the public minister saying the car was stolen. He told people he has a better house that the politicians and is about to build some rental apartments with all the money he has stolen. As a demonstration he goes to calle Marruecos, in Villa Fontana, to a white house. On Google the house can be seen how it looked before and compare it to how it looks today, completely different and luxurious.
The entire state preventative police group he belongs to drive luxury cars, and if that was not enough, all of them were sent to Mexicali under complaints for abuse of authority, but nobody could fix the blame as they bought off the internal affairs department. It is also said this cop has a brother who works at Bar Alebrije, in Pueblo Amigo, and the passes information on who is spending a lot so the police can kidnap them plant drugs on them to extort them."

ROSARITO REPORT: "While the authorities announced joining forces to provide full attention to the Spring Breakers, police and security guards at certain night clubs in the Barbachona Zone are getting mordidas.In one of the cases the police were acting with total cynicism, taking a young American to the ATM to remove the money they demanded.The youths reported that when they returned from the beach to their rooms at the Rosarito Hotel, where they were guests, they were approached by three subjects, two wearing police uniforms and with "a badge on their chest," and another who looked like a security guard at a night club. The police abused their authority and far from having any tolerance that the authorities had announced for the Barbachano Zone, they demanded money from the youths to not arrest them. One of the youths had handcuffed placed on him and forced him and his companions to go to an ATM to remove $300 dollars and set them free.The youths reported the event to 911, and the Rosarito Hotel administration had the authorities investigate the case.Knowledge was gained that other youths were victims of these same types of acts by security guards and police, presumable commercial police."Spring Breakers" have reported that police are taking advantage of their condition and stop them for any reason to intimidate them and demand money in return for not charging them, mainly with infractions which many tourists are unaware of.These acts add to the ironically named "rat blockades" for cars that certain municipal police have placed on Bulevar 2000 and where many drivers have complained because the police are demanding money to not give them tickets."

Liberty Zabala, a general assignment reporter in San Diego for KNSD-TV Channel 7/39, was arrested in Tijuana for about three hours on Monday by Mexican customs officials alongside a San Diego freelance journalist for allegedly taking images in a restricted federal area at the El Chaparral port of entry. A Mexican federal government source with knowledge of the incident said on Tuesday, that two individuals had been spotted at 9:45 a.m. Monday, January 17, on a government video surveillance camera at the port’s “nothing to declare lanes,” and observed “using communications equipment". Zabala could not be reached Tuesday, but KNSD’s news director, Greg Dawson, said Liberty is on her own. Gonzalo Ruiz said he had heard about protests in recent days at the Mexican port and “wanted to get a glimpse of what was going on...I figured I’d take video for my b-roll.” Ruiz and and Zabala were asked for their U.S. passports. “The offender with an 'altered tone' argued that he was in a public right of way, and had the right to use any communications equipment and/or video camera,” according to the same federal source. After a three-hour arrest, Ruiz said authorities returned their passports and allowed them to leave, only after Ruiz was fined 11,000 pesos, about $500, while Zabala was not penalized.

Lets look honestly at Roger's failed record as a race organizing sanction. (Click the Links)
*The Death of Kurt Caselli
*The felony mishandling of race emergency medical responses and tracking responsibilities.
*A child drove over and killed at the last Baja 500. No SCORE acceptance of responsibility. Though, the course was not marked correctly. The racer in question had no business behind the wheel. Roger Norman personally accepted the race conditions, on site, as acceptable for his "race sanction".
*The government of Baja Sur called him a 'LIAR', in the public press. A record low for SCORE.
*Roger's Baja Sur 500, not on the schedule for 2017 and written off for good by the government because Norman lied about the race failure.
*Former SCORE owner Sal Fish has now disavowed any support for Roger Norman.
*Roger's disrespecting Imperial Valley and Mexicali Valley residents by treating them as slaves.
*The Mango Racing Death Fiasco. Gary Magness team lost one of their favorite team members in a horrible incident at the Baja 1000. None of the racers wanted to admit at the time, SCORE failed to support the impacted racing community after one racer went to jail and Roger failed to handle the situation in a timely manner. Charges of 'bail money theft' were also leveled against the race sanction.
*Roger Norman's continued, failed, copying of other peoples work. The The USA 500/Reno races, the Rosarito race, the CABO race and the Imperial Valley event. He tried buying the MINT race.
*How many people, working for Roger, are now gone with continued, multiplied inferior performance in their respective positions, the norm for the race sanction?
